You have a terrible tag. If I were you I would stay home. The southern end of the unit is all locked up and lions have killed all of the deer in the Dragoons. Your best chance to find a deer is in the river bottom near St. David.

I've hunted down there a lot in the past. There are some good bucks in there but require hiking. I like the Mule mountains. You can get into some canyons off of high lonesome road. Sandy Bob on the west side used to hold some coues also. The biggest bodied coues I ever seen was on the san pedro. Also some coues in the hills coming out of Bisbee towards Douglas on the south side of hwy 80 after the warren road cut off. Get out there and scout and 30B can be a good unit.

I would take peloncillo's advice.

I have hunted 30B quite a few times and have had some luck in those areas. Pretty sparse though! That is some pretty nasty country to try to pack out a deer in. Mules would be best. There is a trail that goes up that huge rocky hillside on the north side of the road that comes out near Winwood. Rough, Rough, Rough country. Have seen quite a few small bucks in there.

What hunt did you draw. I drew the Nov 10-19 whitetail hunt 5th choice. I have taken a mule deer in 30 b the last 2 years, 3 -4 choice I know the Dragoon area very well but not the mule mountains.

I had a leftover tag in 30B a few years ago, and the unit was in very bad shape. I believe the numbers are starting to rebound a bit, but it will still be a tough hunt because of access issues.

From the feedback I received during my hunt, if you can make it into the Mule Mountains you'll have the best shot at taking a deer. There aren't as many access issues in the Dragoons since much of the mountain range is national forest, but the roads are rough and you'll have to do quite a bit of hiking to get to decent areas. Plus, the deer densities aren't that great because of drought and predation.

Good Luck!
