Costa Rica set to BAN hunting!

Trouble has been knocking at our doorstep for quite a while.

It looks like trouble has started to make it's way in, slowly but surely.

This is real folks, we need to educate, inform, and prepare ourselves for what is coming.

With our current governmental climate, I can see this being proposed somewhere in the US in the future.

Costa Rica is set to be the first country in the American continent to ban recreational hunting after

the country’s legislature approved the popular measure by a wide margin. The bill, which bans hunting

for sport but still allows culling and subsistence hunting, was approved late Tuesday by a 41-5 vote.

Congress will revisit the issue on Thursday, but the second round is seen as just a formality.

 

President Laura Chinchilla, who supports the measure, is expected to sign it into law in the next days.

The ban, which does not affect fishing for sport, does allow researchers to hunt for scientific purposes.

Hunters violating the ban would have to pay a fine of up to $3,000.

Costa Rica supports an enormous variety of fauna, and is one of the countries with the highest density

of biodiversity in the world.

 

Wildlife in Costa Rica include jaguars, armadillos, deer, sloths and several species of monkeys,

as well as a variety of birds, amphibians and reptiles.

 

Some two million people visit Costa Rica each year — a $2 billion business — and the

country’s natural reserves and variety of species are a great attraction.

I was going to post a thought regarding this type of political stuff on another "missing bull" thread but decided not to rain on that parade, then I saw this thread. It seams appropriate here. The off road community is very careful about not posting what can be used against them to try and shut down off road use... oil spills, trail cutting etc. Isn't this something we hunters should consider as well? Meaning... don't post what could be used against us. We are in a battle to save what we have.

 

Just curious what your thoughts are.

One thing that we definitely CAN do is realize that the off road groups are with us in wanting to keep lands open. You bring up a good point too.

I honestly don't care what they do. if their main revenue is from tourism, then that is who they need to cater to. I'm not familiar if it is a great hunting destination or not, but they didn't touch fishing (of course =main source of revenue).

 

As for my hunt story...one example of a "missing bull" story. I will fill out my questionnaire appropriately and I would not have shot another bull. He was mine. I'm sorry if you (or anyone else) don't like to read those types of stories. Some of us struggle with our experiences and it was a little therapeutic for me to write it. I would not post every negative experience online. nope. wouldn't happen. Also, most of the people who do the bad stuff know better than to post about it.

 

One more thing to the people who posted about finding bulls, I appreciate that too and contacted one of them myself. you never know if you can help.

There are also politics going on in Botswana about shutting down hunting in the Okavango, and surrounding concessions. There is also a push by Conservation groups trying to shut down elephant hunting in Tanzania.

 

It could be the beginning of the end, for future sport hunting in many countries.

and when the hunting stops in Africa, the endangered animals and the animals that are not endangered but require vast amounts of land to thrive, will all be gone shortly there after.

Just to be clear I wasn't dumping on your story or situation... it happens. That it happens was NOT my point or I would have said so in your thread.
