ForkHorn Report post Posted July 28, 2006 .270 is right, the 140 grain bullet actually hits harder than the 150 grain bullet and and shoots just a tad bit flatter. Here's a comparison: http://www.remington.com/products/ammuniti...R270W4*PRC270WB P.S. Your best bet for factory ammo (and my personal favorite) with the 140 grain is the HORNADY 140 gr. BTSP CUSTOM AMMO. It's about $30 a box but is well worth it. ForkHorn
coues addict Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Couesfan I would shoot whichever bullets you shoot the most accurately!,Stalk in on your moose and Wait for a good broadside HEAD shot! seriously there heads are probably as big as a Coue`s deer vital zone. the hole probably wont be that big and let your taxidermist take care of that!. I guarantee you he won`t go far if you put the bullet in that spot between his eye and his ear. Good luck Rich T.

I have buddy's that swear by Hornady ammo, so I will try to find those and try them. Rich T., I don't know if I could make myself take a HEAD shot? Just thinking about it makes me nervous! I can work the bolt fast in my .270, more than likely fast enough to hit em' again. Take out his '' air bags '' then go for his '' runnin' gear '', that should break a Moose down quick, I hope! I like what I'm seein with the 140 gr. bullets, and am pretty set on going with that at least for now, I'll buy and try the Hornady's and the Federal's, see which my gun likes best. THanks again guys, JIM>
.270 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 just use a good bullet. 130,140, or 150 will all work well. folks kill meeses with bows, muzzleloaders and pistols all the time. i think a .270 is as good as any o' them. hit em in the heart. or the neck or the ear hole. if i was gonna hunt moose, i'd take my .300. but i wouldn't even flinch at doin' it with my .270. my uncle has killed a semi load of em with a pump '06, iron sights and factory ammo. just don't use balistic tips or hollowpoints. partitions would be good. but any well constructed bullet ougha work well. i don't think i'd use corelokts tho. i don't think they are really desinged for anything bigger than a deer. i heard some real horror stories from a guy who witnessed a fiasco involving corelokts and a brown bear and a moose last year.
