Pine Donkey Report post Posted October 3, 2012 Wow, what are the chances of that. That is a cool find! You could probably come up with 1000 stories of how that happened. ...the horn was ready to be shed, but still remained prominent on the young buck's head, until the lion attached. The young buck fought for his life, using his antlers to keep the lion at bay. He was a young buck that was forced to watch the recent rut more than participate. His instincts and desire to breed still burned inside of him. Next year he would be bigger and stronger, he would be active in the rut, this will be his mountain. As he drove the tine of the antler deep into the lions flesh, the antler broke free from his head. The force of his entire body which had driven the tine in, now released with the falling horn, and he staggered as he tried to regain his balance. The lion, driven by rage, hunger and ancestral instinct, pounced across the torn up ground and grasped the young bucks neck before he could regain his stature. Unable to defend himself, with his precious blood spilling on the fallen leaves of the scrub oak, he succumbed to the jaws of death... Let hear some other possibilities
joelpresmyk8 Report post Posted October 3, 2012 wow!! alot more thought went into yours haha. my first instinct was alot simpler. but yeah i defiantly agree, so many different things could have happened. weird thing was there were no bones anywhere near by. my theory was just that maybe he was a lion kill and the lion carried his head somewhere and as he was eating on it, the other antler fell off. all this happening obviously during shedding season
