az41mag Report post Posted October 3, 2012 Just curious if anybody else has had this issue before: After developing some loads for my 7mm mag using Accubond bullets, I noticed what appeared to be either more copper fouling than usual, or a more stubborn copper fouling than usual. I have used factory ammo prior to this, and there has always been some copper fouling to remove. I have used Butch's Bore Shine in the past and it has worked pretty well. For whatever reason, this time it's taking a lot more effort to remove the fouling. Any thoughts or ideas on this would be appriciated. Thanks.
ready2hunt Report post Posted October 3, 2012 I have noticed that as well. Not so much that there is more fouling but it does take a little more effort to get it out of there. You using the Nosler Accubonds?
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 3, 2012 Its been a while since I shot Accubonds, but I didnt notice any unusually heavy fouling with them. Try CR-10, or Gunslick foam and leave it (Gunslick) in for several hours/over night. Also, try using a nylon brush a size or two smaller in diameter then your bore, and wrap a patch around it. oz31p Report post Posted October 3, 2012 I use accubonds exclusively. And they all leave "more than usual" copper fouling. Ive had good luck with t/c's T17. And birtchwood nitro cleaner.cleaner. Also ive never noticed a differance in accuracy with or with out the fouling leave in there.
az41mag Report post Posted October 3, 2012 Thanks for the input so far. Yes, I'm using Nosler Accubond's. Will the CR-10 or t/c's T17 cleaner do any damage to bluing?
kwp Report post Posted October 3, 2012 Try Boretech Eliminator and/or Boretech Cu+2 Copper Remover. Both have worked well for me and gotten more fouling out in a gun that I thought was clean after using other copper solvents. They also won't damage your barrel. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 3, 2012 MAKE SURE that if you use CR-10 that you DO NOT let it get anywhere on the gun! I dont think it will ruin bluing on modern rifles, but I let one drop roll about 3 inches on my Kimber 22-250 and that stripped the finish off that exact spot. So be careful! And a tear soon followed. T17 will not harm blueing or ss. I havennot tested it on wood.

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 4, 2012 I am surprised no one has mention the Montana Creek copper creams etc. I have used them, and I like their solvents but have not been too impressed with the copper cream.
Benbrown Report post Posted October 5, 2012 The Montana Extremes work pretty well--is that what you are referring to?
