Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Last season I tried the Blacks Creek Jim Horne Alaskan. Has a pouch for a water bladder and unzips to expand for loading a deer quarter or two. http://www.blacks-creek.com/jimhorn.php The Eberlestock Just One J105 is good and has received good reports. Available at Sportsmans Warehouse. http://eberlestock.com/J105%20Just%20One.htm This year I will be toting a Mystery Ranch NICE Frame with load carrier and 5000 pack. Reportedly a very comfortable pack under heavy loads. http://www.mysteryranch.com/catalog/index....;products_id=21 One thing that I really like is the Kifaru Gun Bearer (sure beats a slipping shoulder strap, frees a hand, and can be attached to about any pack with a waist band). http://kifaru.net/GUNBEAR.HTM Kifaru makes some awesome packs also, as endorsed by Scott Adams. http://kifaru.net/BACKPAKS.HTM RR
Coues79 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 I was wanting to start a thread like this too. I am needing to get a new pack. I bought a pack mule external frame pack last year. It was the noisiest dang thing I've ever put on my back. The hinge points on the hip make some serious squeeking noises with every step. The badlands, and the eberlstock's look pretty nice. Anyone have any luck with the badlands? Do they have enough room to throw a hindquarter or two from a coues in there? I've only used an external frame pack and never an internal. How do they do in the hills as far as comfortability and use for hauling game out?
KGAINES Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Those kifaru packs look like they would be hard to beat, but its probably just like anything else if you like it and it fits you it is probably what you should get.
DEERSLAM Report post Posted July 27, 2006 If you are doing day hunts or even 2 or 3 day hunts the Eberlestock Just One is hard to beat. Plenty of room for your tripod, spotter, 15's, food and gear. Also has a place for your water bladder. The backscabbard is an awesome feature. Best of all when you knock down that big Coues buck you have room to haul him out with one trip. If you are looking for a bigger pack for some extended trips into the mountains the Kifaru LongHunter is an awesome pack. Tons of room and features and the Gunbearer is nice to get the rifle out of your hands in tough terrain.

matthewp45 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Badlands 2200 for longer trips and Badlands super day pack for day trips, can't go wrong. I put camelback bladders in both of them.
Coues79 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Thanks for your guys' input. I feel comfortable now after hearing about them. The badlands do look pretty spacious and roomy. I like to carry a decent size pack with the option of hauling meat out if I have too. I always seem to get into the country too far to drag a buck back out. That sucks, especially in coues country. COOSEFAN Report post Posted July 28, 2006 I have the badlands 2200 and love it, BUT.......Deerslam and a few others have really liked the Eberlestock Just One pack so I finally went and put my hands on one. WOW........ I am going to buy one next week on payday! I might be willing to sell my Badlands.......got alot of miles on it though. Very impressed with the Just One's construction and expansion capabilities are incredible! Perfect if you carry a big spottin scope and all the other expensive junk, plenty of pockets...which are alot bigger than the 2200's..... and very quiet and comfortable looking material. The price tag is $199.00 at the Warehouse, is that about what they are priced every where else? Also, the one I looked at was a different camo than what I've seen on them before, it was more like a "sage" pattern, is it new? Thanks, JIM>
DEERSLAM Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Jim, I paid $199 for mine at Bass Pro. The new pattern in Advantage Max 1 Open Country, (Bill Jordan-Realtree) wish they had that pattern available when I got mine. As a matter of fact was just talking to a bud of mine who drew a 36b Dec. tag and told him he has got to pick up a Just One pack for his hunt. I think Eberlestock should put me on their Pro Staff the way I keep promoting their packs
Coues79 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I just went down to the Warehouse in Mesa and tried on the eberlstock's as well. They are nice. If my memory serves me right, I thought the price tag was $169.00, but maybe that wasn't the Just One. I did happen to notice one of the eberlstock's at 259.00. Didn't pay much attention to it once I saw the price tag. I know I have been to all 3 of the warehouses in the valley and I feel that by far, the one in Goodyear has the better pack selection out of the 3. The one in Mesa was struggling for a while, but now they have seemed to have brought some more in. I'll be down there in a couple weeks to pick either a badland's or an eberlstock up.
