couesntime Report post Posted September 26, 2012 Works great if you can keep the bears away like already said. I use them in the summer to see what is in the area and that is of course when the bears are looking to fill there bellys with easy food. Staps dont work, bears will tear them apart regardless and they keep all other critters away until they finally leave. You might have to check them often at first to see. I left this spot alone after I went in to check my SD card with my dog and kicked this bear out from his new lunch spot! He left piles of poop and was the only critter on camera! I'm curious as to what you use instead of straps. I use ratchet straps and haven't had any trouble. If there is something better I definitely want to know about it. Thanks! 520HUNT Report post Posted September 27, 2012 I have 6 of these pipe feeders out in Unit 33. I have had no trouble with bears yet. But the crows are the biggest thieves. Javelina and deer are hitting the feeder almost daily. Can't wait for the archery deer season to open up in Dec. And archery Javalina to open in Jan.

ready2hunt Report post Posted September 27, 2012 I have been looking at these for a while and when I see them I appears that when it rains or snows that the water would just collect at the bottom. Any thoughts from those who use them?? Does it collect, does it not....does it even matter. Just curious as I like the concept...it would keep me from making so many trips to my spots Thanks

bearbowman Report post Posted September 27, 2012 I've used these before. they work very well, but they get drained really fast! I had a 6ft 4 inch pipe out in aug, and just the deer would drain it in about a week. Every time. Was nuts, so you would prob need even larger than that. Also, with the 4inch it was about 30lbs of corn for the 6ft. Also, you want a cap for the top, and use a drain gate for the bottom. If the gaps are to big its best to put some tape over them and then poke holes so you don't have water issues.

I think i am going to try this out. I saw several people online drill a bunch of small holes so I am assuming it was to drain.

So i am pretty sure u have six tickets hangin out in unit33 I had heard this before, so I called the Coronado National Forest Service and asked to speak with a Law Enforcement Officer. I asked him about baiting on forest service land, and his response was as long as AZ Game and Fish say it's legal, it is legal. He said the Coronado does not have any laws or rules dealing with baiting. He told me that they have an agreement with Game and Fish that allow them to enforce AZ Game and Fish regulations. But anything dealing with hunting, falls under the Game and Fish regulations. Now as for leaving the pipe feeder on forest land, after 72 hours, it is considered abandoned property, and can be taken down. He said they recommend hunters take all equipment with them when they leave, but they have to find it first...

You said to look it up, I looked thru all the forest service regulations I could find on line, and there is nothing on baiting... Do you know where I could find it?
