Flintlock Report post Posted September 24, 2012 Well I drew a 12 A West (first season) tag this year, this being my first time up there I was wondering if I should get a Mountain Lion or a Yearling Buffalo tag? I plan on arriving a week early to scout and if I tag out I would like to chase something else. Great site, Thanks, Flintlock

bonecollector Report post Posted September 24, 2012 Welcome aboard. I've never been on the Kaibab but I say why not have the tags. Good luck on your hunt.
trophyhnter Report post Posted September 24, 2012 If you buy a buff tag, make that your first and only priority for scouting! They are hard to find to begin with and when the shooting starts on openning morning the buff are hard to find if not improssisble as most will got the grand canyon where you cannot hunt! Some people hire a guide just to get a buffalo on openning day (it maybe the only way to get an az buff because of the drawn odds) and then hunt deer. You more than likely will not hear of a DIY buffalo taken after the 2nd or 3rd day! That isnt to say that the deer will wait for you to find them after the shooting starts either! The lion tag will never hurt as you will see them when you don't have one and they are good for the rest of the year and units! Good luck on whatever you decide. Good problem to have! Flintlock Report post Posted September 25, 2012 Thanks for all the input, especially Kaibabkiller, I am going to go ahead and get both. My 76 year old Dad that started me in hunting is coming down just for the experience and it would be great to get a nice buck and have a chance at a Buff or a Cat also. Thanks, Flintlock
JakeL Report post Posted September 30, 2012 Chances are slim you see either one unless you put in good specific effort to. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
