6A Turkeys - Better in north or south of the unit?

I have hunted the Long Park area in the past for Elk and also way of Apache Maid for Elk but have not seen any turkey there only west of Morman Lake.

Is there a type of area they prefer over another, Ponderosa's over Junipers? My son and I have a fall tag so now that my truck is fixed and our Pheasant hunt over it is time to concentrate on Turkey.
