Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations

Recommended Posts

I keep trying to come up with a solution to the problems everyone has been having to water hole or stock tank hunting confrontations. Only thing I could come up with to solve this would be have the AZGFD make it illegal to hunt within a hundred yards of any named stock tank in AZ. Any other ideas? This would solve tree stand and ground blind disputes. It would also allow game to access water without disturbing arguing hunters. Sounds like a recommendation, doesn't it?

Sounds like crap to me, I believe G&F is very clear on the issue. Blind or stand means nothing, first come, first served. Good people will work it out. Government can't fix stupid or turn a %$#& into a nice guy. Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more.

I am not sure your suggestion would really solve anything....it just moves the problem outward from the water hole to the trails leading to it. As has been stated, first come, first served.....it's pretty straight forward, if people can respect each other.

There isnt a confronation if you are there first and the other person respects the first come first serve! But if the person is an A-hole, nothing (laws or rules) will fix that!

Does first come first serve include hanging a tree stand or putting up a ground blind on a stock tank days or weeks before the season opener and then expect others that get there first to not hunt there? Some even put notes to other hunters on those tree stands or ground blinds saying they will be hunting there. Maybe AZGFD should start a reservation system (for a small AZGFD fee of course) for privileges to hunt stock tanks during a set period of time.

Are you being serious right now? A reservation system??? Please tell me your joking...

First come first serve is by far the best policy. And no it does not include setting up a tree stand/blind days or weeks ahead of time and "claiming it" If your physically there first, then its yours.

I had an average of 3 other hunters a day come to the tank that I was on durning my archery elk tag in 2010. I'd just whistle and wave my hat and they'd leave. I didn't have any problem with anyone trying to take over the tank, cuz I was there first. I did, however, have a problem with all the dang knuckle heads that decide 545 is the right time to check the dang tank! Lol, like it was mentioned before, read a book, get a clue! Elk are crepuscular, meaning they are more active at dawn and dusk, which means DON'T DRIVE TO A TANK AT DUSK! Lol, if you want to sit a tank, do what I did and get there at 1 or 2.

If you dont like arguing with people go further in. Get there first, if you really want to hunt the water hole. There is no "fix" to this. There is going to be idiots in the field, cant help it.

Interesting idea but as other mentioned I don't think it would work too well. I can actually see the possibility of a rule like this complicating things even more. I agree with the others and think the system we have now is the best system possible.

I have to agree with just about eveyone posting in here (sorry m77, I think you may have temporarily lost your mind). The worst thing to do would be to pass more BS laws and give additional power and authority to an organization that already has to many a BS rules and regulations. Hunters can work it out themselves within the rules on the books.

I had to look at the time you are posting to wonder if you had too many cocktails!!???

some people leave notes so they can figure out if they can work out a schedule for the hunt if not move on to plan B or get there really early.

to make it illegal to hunt a tank is the biggest bunch of crap I have heard! So someone makes they're own tank and the problem moves there!

get a clue! people need to be responsible for their own actions! I have had nothing but good feed back from leaving a note and trying to work something out. Usually ends in trading info and a friend or 2.. If they don't respond then you better have a plan B. Of coarse there are jerks, but they are everywhere..... so how you handle yourself says a lot about you! Throwing someones blind in the tank is not a solution. There are plenty of places to hunt!

Beating people to waterholes, top of the mountain is not that hard at all. 3:45 is the golden hour for leaving camp you will beat the 99% leaving camp at 4:30
