Nixon Monarch 4-16x50 BDC or Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 VPlex

I currently have the Monarch on my .300 RUM but have been thinking about switching it out with the Viper to get a little more magnification. Anyone have any thoughts between the two?

Both are great scopes but I think you get the most bang for your buck with the viper. If I remember right the Nikon has 1/8 clicks while the viper has 1/4 clicks. I much prefer the 1/4 clicks on a hunting rig over the 1/8.

If you are going to to be dialing in for yardage I would say definitely go with with the viper. If you are just going to zero the scope and forget it then I

would go which ever one you like better. The Nikons are good scopes but i have had a 3 monarchs and none will dial in yardage the first time

every time.

rossislider,

I just put my order in for the Vortex 6.5-20x44 and will be mounting it on my 300 Win Mag next week. I have shot the Monarchs in the past (although not the specific one you mention) and liked the clarity so I have a bit of Nikon experience to compare it to. I'll let you know how it sizes up in my opinion.

Look at the MOA travel on both. I believe Vortex has more. My PST Vortex has 50 MOA of adjustment. They are both great scopes but since having owned both VORTEX has my vote hands down.
