Flatlander Report post Posted October 22, 2012 With that said a shut out is still a shut out!!! Yes, and no. The reason that UA got shut out was because Oregon was playing their starters in the second half. The reason they were playing their starters was because the outcome wasn't certain at half (not that it was close, it just wasn't 20+), ASU had the opportunity to play its starters against a lot of Oregon backups in the second half. Now, that being said if ASU had been able to make a field goal, punch it in from the one, and make a catch in the endzone on the last play of the game; the outcome could have looked a lot different. That would have put them within 5. Unfortunately, they didn't. What they did do was turn the ball over a lot, and give up an ungodly number of rushing yards. Those big runs in the first half were directly related to the lack of Will Sutton up front, that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. So all in all I really think both performances were pretty similar. ASU had trouble executing against the duck defense, and UA never could take advantage of opportunities that presented themselves. One thing is clear to me, Oregon is a big, bad football team and I for one hope they beat the pants off an SEC team in the BCS championship. Sutton would of helped, but you guys were beat in every aspect and still would of been with him in. Remember you guys lost to a bad Missouri which hurts the PAC because they are a bottom barrel SEC team. Still along ways to go for these programs to be thinking national recognition. And UA's dominance of SC State really lent itself to adding a lot of credibility to the Pac. BTW - ASU gave up less than 100 passing yards to Oregon, and had 200 of their own, so I think its a stretch to say ASU was outmatched in that department. The inability to stop the run was the card that brought down the house. I am not saying that Will Sutton would have stopped it if he was in the game, but Oregon sure did a good job of exploiting his absence. With Will in the game I do not claim that the outcome is any different, just that the odds of those two big runs goes way down.
muleskinner Report post Posted October 27, 2012 Wildcats 39, USC 36...How about them Arizona boys? Is that the 3rd ranked team they have taken down this year? Maybe we can start sniffing a Rose Bowl berth somewhere down the line huh? Give RR a chance to bring in some of his own recruits...who knows what might happen! Flatlander Report post Posted October 29, 2012 I was in hunting camp. Only a UA and Washington State fans would start talking Rose Bowl after ending a 3 game losing streak. Congrats on the win, it was a good one, but you might not wanna book your plane ticket to Pasadena quite yet.
bonecollector Report post Posted October 29, 2012 Good win for uofa. Bad loss for Asu but ucla is no walk over. Not sure if Asu will win another game besides the game against uofa.
ForkHorn Report post Posted November 4, 2012 UA gets destroyed by a team ASU hung with, ASU loses to a team UA hung with. Reality? Both teams have some major things to work on before they are Rose Bowl caliber. I say Duel in the Desert is a toss up. Should be fun. In other college football news.... Oregon looks ridiculous. Can anyone stop them? I hope to see Alabama vs Oregon in national championship

Snapshot Report post Posted November 4, 2012 Whats going on with the Cats?. Man did they get slaughtered.
muleskinner Report post Posted November 4, 2012 Apparently the cats forgot to take the defense with them. That was total domination on both sides of the ball, which surprises me. The defense has been suspect all year, but I expected more out of the offense. Oh well, still have a few things to work on. Still feel better about the future than I have for some time. BirdDog20 Report post Posted November 5, 2012 I don't get the over-reaction on each UofA game. Lot of my friends ramped up their expectations to unrealistic levels and have taken the loss hard. Realistically, the Cats aren't quite there yet, but definitely headed in the right direction with RichRod. WAY AHEAD of schedule. Offense is solid with Scott at the helm, but their defense is / has been smoke and mirrors ... opportunistic more than anything. They are undersized and lack depth. We aren't going to shut down anyone. Everything has to break just right like it did in the USC game. I wonder how severe Scott's hit was in the USC game and it makes you question if the UCLA performance was a product of that hit. Probably should not have been playing but I could understand that the dude is a warrior. It would have been nice if the Colorado game followed the USC game to give him a time to recoup. Gotta keep the player's health in mind and sometimes you have to protect the player from himself. They should definitely keep him out of the Colorado game since we should be able to get by that one with a backup QB and our running game. I think it's worse that he's letting on. I came back for my dad's hunt and we came back out of 36B specifically to catch the USC game (my 11-year old son's first UA game - what a game!). When I saw Scott throwing up on the field and then saw the replay, I certainly feared the worse. I just hope it doesn't have Tuitama type lingering effects. Let's beat Colorado (w/o Scott), and get Matt healthy for ASU. The Colorado game gives us bowl eligibility. Use him sparingly or not at all against Utah if he needs more time. Flatlander Report post Posted November 24, 2012 Hard to compare a 5-2 record when they're schedule has not nearly matched the schedule that U of A has had. It all comes down to Nov. 23.. Who cares what their respective schedules are until that game. Well guess what, it all came down to tonight and look who showed up to play? Where are all the UA fans now? In hiding, just like their head coach.
