hoghntr Report post Posted September 15, 2012 Well you all have heard me complain about all my pain and brokeness for years and it has just hit me in a new level of horrible. Ok few years back i got crossbow permit cuz my rheumatologist was sick of me hurting and was afraid of me having more surgeries.. well truth is compared to most i just dont shoot much, i cant! multiple shoulder surgeries and all my post military issues with body put me in position of basically flinging a few arrows before each hunt and i would go kill and that was that.. well i had a few years of technical fouls where i wounded animals and i knew it was my fault and if i was healthy and able to shoot regularly as i wanted to the odds would be better so i was in favor of x-bow permit.. now in 2009 i killed turkey, deer, elk with x-bow and the deer was awesome but i felt something missing on others.. anyways recently i had been doing pretty well andgot a hold of a Athens bow which has a supe easy draw and gr8 valley these things made it possible for me to draw so i became staff with Athens and quickly snatched up 1 of almost everything they had that i could find used... now i was starting to have more neck pain and upper back issues etc but was not sure of connection.. then very rappidly i could not raise my bow to the target, thought i was having some sort of target panic.. well for unrelated reasons i had a contrast mri of right shoulder on Friday Aug 31 now i gotta tell you the doc was basically mocking me in his office.. he was saying oh come on your a big guy and you cant turn my hand? look how small i am.. come on mike whats wrong with you? ok this is when i stopped, stepped away, and in my head asked myself how much trouble i would get in if i punched him! i mean punched him as hard as i could??? ok anyways i did not. i said doc i am here because i am 6'2" and should be able to poor a glass of tea from a pitcher without dropping it right.? IDIOT!!!!! so... Tue morning 8am after holiday i missed 3 call already... ok story getting long.. i met with him and he said.. well first ill tell you i thought i just needed a little clean out.. doc said mike there is nothing i can do for you. he explained my rotator cuff is stretched so thin it almost cant be seen on mri and sam with others and if i have tear they will have nothing to repair. now the thing stopping me from raising bow to target is i have other tendons growing all massive trying to do the job of the bad ones and that is what is getting stuck.. very painful by the way.. so for years i have been complaining of body shifting shoulders crooked and getting stuck and even had other mri's and they went from saying oh mine do that to to now in a somber tone.. Mike their is nothing i can do to help, your shoulder is just wore out and needs to be replaced but we cant do that yet so no more anything with right arm. So plz pray for me i have some pretty serious decisions to make. I have some doctors to consult with and most importantly i must find out if this is part of my disease process and if so will taking the immune supressants im afraid of help stop the progression ???? Our God is greater but right about now i wanna jump off a dang cliff ya know. im 40years old and so sick of having my body busted up.. and im rely sick of being treated like crap at the VA. ok im going elk hunting and im sticking my nose in my Bible till i come out happy. thx for listening Mike
AverageJoe Report post Posted September 15, 2012 I have bad shoulders also. Both of them. Mine comes and goes though. Left one gets hard to hold up my bow at times and right one gets hard to pull it back. Sucks. Then there is my knee problems. Whole nother story. Why cant you have surgery done? Seems the only solution. Can you go to a non VA doc? I was in the Marines and had bad luck anytime i went to a VA doc. I hope it all works out for you. Seems the only solution. Can you go to a non VA doc? I was in the Marines and had bad luck anytime i went to a VA doc. I hope it all works out for you. from what they say and what they showed me there is nothing to operate on. i am going to see a doc who is reconstruction specialist but again if nothing to work with he will also have hands tied, rotator cuff is stretched so thin and so warn out their is just nothing to work with. i would like to see about having some of the tendons that have built up so big shaved down a bit so i wasnt getting stuck so much but that may cause failure of the cuff? i have a connective tissue disease that is probably the culprute but i was not warned of this happening. not really worried about a bow any more... heck i need my shoulders.. im not talking tear im talking basically not having a rotator cuff... i had mri in 2007 and va said i was fine and basically suck it up but they would do a exploritory if i wanted so i was fee basised out but then i found out i needed my hips done so had to put on hold so i just want to know how i went from no problem to no shoulder in 5 years. ):
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 15, 2012 Sorry to hear about your continuing troubles....I can imagine your frustration....I pray your doctors find a treatment that works for you. Perhaps shoulder replacement surgery would work. I know several people who have had knee replacements and they are so glad they did it.
