elkhunter Report post Posted August 28, 2012 Yes! They are awesome, you just can't do birds, the hollow bones causes sharp fragments to tear their intestine, deer and elk are awesome, they love those hooves and even javelina
Airbusdriver Report post Posted August 29, 2012 Anybody give their deer bones to their dogs and is it ok to do it? Glad you asked this question. I was wondering if there were any bacteria or disease that could endanger the dog.
Pine Donkey Report post Posted August 29, 2012 We have always given our dogs the leg bones, hoof to hip (or blade) all in one piece. They love them. We do tie them away once the dogs have cleaned them and begin to "crunch" the bone.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 29, 2012 My dogs love them as well. The leg bones are safe for them to chew on.
PRDATR Report post Posted August 29, 2012 Boil some water then toss in the bones and bring back to a boil, turn off the flame then cover and let sit for 30 minutes. Drain, cool and serve! This will kill most bacteria and worms.
GotBowAz Report post Posted August 29, 2012 My hunting partner doesn’t have dogs but he does have about 100 or more Turkey Buzzards in his trees every September. So he brings them his deer or elk bones to pick at. Kind of fun to see actually. I have given my dogs the bones of deer and elk and they love it. I cut them up with a Sawsall in 6 inch pieces, boil them pretty good and serve. GBA
BASS Report post Posted August 29, 2012 I was always told not to give dogs "cooked" bones. They said it would make the bone splinter? Anyways, my dogs always seem to like the ones laying around camps, and antlers a lot more than they should!
