Leupold scope

Recommended Posts

I need a scope for a 243 that my 10 yr old will be using this year. We are thinking about a 4-14x40 or similar, the one we have now weighs a ton and is very bulky. anyone have suggestions for me?

I think a 3x9VX1 would be fine. Kids tend to have great eyesight and the FOV can be a bit wobbly at 14X. My son is rough on equipment so a high dollar scope that could sustain a lot of damage didn't look too appealing.

I think that even a 2x7 with 4" of eye relief would be an option to consider. I have both and both have been on my sone 243 and his 30-06 under different circumstances depending on the terrain.

The lower power scopes force you to get closer and improve stalking skills.

Look into the vortex viper 6.5-20x44 from cameralandny... Hard to beat the price for that scope. I have it on my .243 and its a deadly combo.

I agree with the lower power and more eye relief. My first rifle I had to have special rings that brought the scope back far enough to get a full and proper view. And unless your son is adept at long distance, a lower power is probably fine. It's always easy to upgrade if need be.

I have A vx -iii that I might entertain selling. It's a 4.5-14x40 with the after market leupold m1 turrets. It has been used, so it does have some marks on it. If interested let me know we can work on a price.
