azffhunter Report post Posted August 26, 2012 So...there I was. Minding my own business archery hunting coues in 36A today near Caballo Loco Ranch off of Sasabe Hwy when I encountered 3 individuals (likely smugglers) in full camouflage packing assault rifles. First time I've come across this so I thought I would pass the word. It's not unusual for me to run into border crossers...they just don't usually have machine guns! Reported it to Border Patrol who dispatched a team to hopefully locate and intercept these chumps. Be careful out there and happy hunting!!

AZkiller Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Good to hear no one was hurt !! Whats an assualt rifle ?? AR15 AK47 SKS I think he is saying there is no such thing. This is why I won't hunt down there, if they cross with a weapon it is an act of war and I would shoot them.
bigorange Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Not exactly fun. I had a stalk on a nice buck interrupted near there when we heard voices in one of the washes...not interested in what we'd find so we backed out and went around and lost the deer. Heading out in that area next weekend...how was the deer action?
coues7 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 Can you and the media identify which weapon they were carrying? Clearly it was a machine gun right?

John O Report post Posted August 27, 2012 Just curious- Can you be a little more specific about "encountered". Did you end up face to face, or did you glass them from a distance? Did they know you were there? The more you can share, the more you might be able to help some others who hunt down there. Thanks.
Vinnie B Report post Posted August 27, 2012 If it's not capable of select fire, it's NOT an assault rifle.
Scooter Report post Posted August 27, 2012 It could also have been some "minutemen"... as they do wear camo and carry semi-automatic rifles from time to time. I'm with John-O... did they see you? Were they on the road?

I had a stalk on a nice buck interrupted near there when we heard voices in one of the washes...not interested in what we'd find so we backed out and went around and lost the deer. Heading out in that area next weekend...how was the deer action? Deer action was very slow....but I expected that. Since it was mid day. Never been in the area so I was mostly exploring it. Gotta be some big bucks though. Lots of cover and water.
