Sound to stop mulies in their tracks?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there was a sound/call that would stop mullies in their tracks to give you a good archery shot. I see this all the time watching whitetail hunts on tv. They do a grunt and the deer stops and looks but I've never really seen that with mules. I just want to know if there is some way I can stop a mule deer to give myself a good shot. Thanks for your input.

I always let out the sounds of a fawn....sounds like a baby lamb. Youtube it. It has worked wonders for me...you wont get every deer to stop but its usually enough for a shot. Its a shame I can't hit the broad side of a barn. Good luck to you!!

I have a call that releases a high pitch sound which stops them real quick

Yeah I'm just kidding. That fawn bleat sounds good. Hopefully I won't have to use it but it's good to have something up your sleeve just in case the situation isn't ideal.

I think it depends on how much pressure they have had also. Seems like if they haven't had much hunting pressure they stop at a whistle or a shout. In my experience if they have been shot at or kind of on edge they arnt stopping for anything. Haven't tried using calls but don't see why it wouldn't work.

I think I'd stick with something natural. either a fawn or doe bleat, but not a doe in heat bleat except during the rut. I'm looking for a "it's just me" sound. Don't want to chase them off. Good luck.

They always stop right at the pile of corn for me, so I don't have to say a word.

Cornbagger.
