123456 Report post Posted August 19, 2012 I was really happy to arrow my biggest buck to date this last January, but now i am reading about everyone's excitement for the opener and I feel left out. I thought, well maybe I will just shoot one in January for now on. I like the rut better in early january and usually have more time to hunt. Oh I forgot about the excitement of finding out what deer tags were drawn. Yeah I had none of that either, since I couldn't apply. I am wondering who else is done for the year and what are your thoughts on hunting in January. Would you do it again?

123456 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Bear hunting defintely perks my interest, I love wackin' turkeys with arrows, but i have a hard time going solely after turkeys. I have killed a couple with my bow, but both have been while deer hunting. I love bird hunting, just not turkeys. Since they are the size of a goose,(maybe a little bigger) I think we should be able to harvest 3 dark and 3 white. Just kidding I have plenty to do this year, most of my good buddies have tags and I have just decided to help out on their hunts as much as possible. It's what I call hunting Karma. I just started thinking that, I might have enough points to draw a kaibab hunt next year, do I try and shoot another deer in january and forego the draw again. I feel like if I do not atleast attempt to deer hunt next January, my bow may turn on me. I think another trip to Texas is in my near future. Boy are those hogs fun to hunt. P.S. Kaibab hunter- good luck on your upcoming 13 tag and I hope you nail a monster.

idgaf Report post Posted August 22, 2012 I tagged out in January also. like you I am also bouncing off the walls to go hunt. Luckily, I live an area with turkeys to give me something to look forward to (I have taken a bear and not alot of interest in getting another one) Also, I am three species away from my big ten with a bow (without dogs) two of the species I am waiting for a tag on, sheep and buffalo, and the third, mt lion, will be my focus this fall. Whether its the first day of January or the last day of December or a season in between, if I see a mature buck that takes my breath away I am shooting.
