Swaro 10x42 slc or el

Recommended Posts

Hey guys any advice on which one to get. I have a pair of the 15x56's and love them but want to get some 10's for around the neck and was wandering if the EL's are worth the extra cash.I know they are a little lighter but sure do see alot of guys wearing the slc's. Any comments are greatly appreciated thanks Josh

Josh,

The EL's are optically a hair better than the SLC and they are lighter. If you enjoy your 15x56 SLC's then you should also enjoy the 10x SLC's. A bino harness will take care of the weight difference on a long day.

When you are into the high end glass it is a matter of what feels better in your hands as well as the optics, because at that level of glass sometimes the optics are actually better than your eyes so you will never be able to see the slight difference that is there. With that said, you may want to also consider the Leica or Zeiss. All three brands offer extraordinary glass.

Hey Josh, you can't go wrong either way! I have the EL's along with the 15x SLC's and one thing to consider is your tripod adapters. I had the Outdoorsmans install a nipple on my EL's and put one on my 15's so they both fit onto the same tripod adapter. Otherwise you are stuck with the Swaro adapter which is a flimsy "wing" type of adapter and it will not work with SLC's. and isn't as durable. Just my $0.02, JIM>

I was in the same situation back in December. I couldn't decide between SLC or EL's. I then went down to Sportsman Warehouse and took a look at the Nikon Premier LX L's and the Swaro's at the same time. I thought the Nikons were a little brighter and they felt better in my hands. I also thought they were a little lighter. After that I decided to get the Nikons. I love them so far, and haven't had any issues. They also come with a no-fault 25 year warranty. I will be lucky if I use them for ten and buy another pair. Give them a chance when you are doing some comparing. David

Josh, my two cents:

I have the 10X EL's and love them. I would highly recommend them to you. I have the 15X56 SLC's and love them. I would highly recommend them to you. Both bino's have the Outdoorsmans quick release "pins" and I have two Outdoorsmans tripods to mount them on. I know it is a lot of money to spend but it is the only way to go. Do it right the first time and you will not regret it. I have a closet full of "cheap" binos and tripods that I wasted my money on. Go with the best you can afford...or can't afford.

I work over at the Sportsmans Warehouse in the optics dept. and have played with both the EL's and the

SLC's quite a bit. I get asked this question quite a bit as far as wich one to go with. I look at it this way, you already have the 15's and weight is a factor, and you have the money, go with the EL's. If you dont mind the weight then there really isnt a huge optical difference between the two however the EL is far more erognomical than the slc, yet the tripod adapter is a joke for the EL's. If you dont have the 15's or something comporable you can get the 10x42 slc's and the doubler for less then the price of the EL's. So it really all depends on what you want to spend and what you already have. And there is a lot to be said about the 10x32 EL's as well as the 8x30 SLC's. But again, it all depends and what you want to spend and what is most practical.

As said before you can't go wrong with either the SLC or EL. I have two SLC's and an El and love them all. Ergonomically speaking the EL's just feel better while hand held glassing and are slightly brighter.

As far as the Outdoorsman's tripod, I wish I had spent the money and bought it first instead of wasting money on inferior tripods that are now collecting dust. It's a great setup.

Hey Josh, I forgot about this topic with all the draw stuff goin on. I would highly reccommend the Outdoorsmans tripod. I love it, and talked all my buddys into buying them and they love em. I really like the Jim White pan head and is very fluid for panning and small and compact. I use the Outdoorsmans adapter with the "pins" installed in both my binos and an extra foot plate on my spottin scope so they all fit on my one J.W. head and adapter. It is very expensive and I feel only worth it if you use it ALOT because there is comparable products for a little cheaper. I still highly reccomend having the Outdoorsmans install a "pin" in the EL's if you get them and use their adapter, it is simple/compact and sturdy.......unlike the Swaro El adapter which is a joke.....drop it once and I bet it will explode with peices and springs flying everywhere! Like has been said before, these items are expensive, but you won't ever have to upgrade or replace these products because they are among the best and will last. Just get your hands on the tripod and the EL's, you'll know what were talking about! Best of luck to ya, JIM>

Thanks again for the info I ended up finding a set of new 10x42 slc's for 1100.00 on EBAY it was my first purchase from EBAY and now I'm addicted to finding good deals on there. I think I am going to bite the bullet on the Outdoorsmans tripod set up and stop wasting time now that i know I am drawn for antelope elk and white tail I think with all that glassing the tripod will pay for itself.

Congrats on your fine puchase! I think you definitely have a good reason to get the "good" stuff, actually three good reasons! I have looked on ebay forever to find an outdoorsmans tripod for sale, and have never seen one..............'cause nobody wants to get rid of em'! Good luck, JIM>
