Covert II Question - Need it to take bigger cards

Recommended Posts

I put my Covert II out on July 5th on a really active spot. The biggest card it would take was 2GB. Well, that filled up in 5 days. I was looking forward to almost a month's worth of pictures but missed out on the last couple weeks because the card filled up so quickly.

I tried putting in a 4GB card today and the menu wouldn't come up to format it. Is there any way to get this camera to work with larger cards? I absolutely LOVE the camera. The battery life is fantastic, the triggering, everything about it. I just need more capacity.

Is your camera the older Covert II with the white remote or is it the later model with the black remote. If it has the white remote then your camera is only the 2GB camera. The cameras that use the black remote are the newer 4GB models.

What do yo have your image size set on? I set my Coverts II cameras on 3MP which seems to be plenty of detail. On that setting a 2GB card will give me almost 3100 pics.

Thanks Tracy. It's the older model, and I've got it set on the lower, 3MP setting. I got 1,997 pictures in 5 days (partials on both ends). I adjusted it today from the 3 pic setting to 1 pic, but only had a 256k card it would take. That's like 1 or 2 days max. I know there are ways to reduce the number of pix, but I really like seeing everything going on there.

I'm hoping there is a way to at least double the capacity by sending it in to them. Maybe it's time for a new camera that can handle more volume of pix.

Make sure you format your card in the camera with the remote, not just clearing it on the computer, I dont know why that is, but it resets the card or something. Set it at 3MP and 1 shot every 20 or 30 seconds and you wont miss to much with it and you'll get 3000 or more pics easily. I have 6 covert II's and they have black remotes and will take 4GB cards, guess I got lucky and got later ones.

no tot take away from the thread about the covert. But i am thinking about buying simmons whitetail trail camera. Probably the 6mp camera it holds up to 32gb card. 4 AA batteries to last 6 months+. I hope to buy it tomorrow and put it out in the field very soon to test.

But with what i know with cameras that say they take up to 2gb, 4gb cards. Test it at the house first to see if the camera will not freeze/freak out and actually function. My stealth cam said it would take up to 8gb, but stuck a 16gb card in it. Worked couple times and didnt function one time.

Thanks Lance, I'll check those out. I've got a Moultrie M80 sitting here in my office that takes high capacity cards. I should have this one out there, and will by the weekend. The super sucky part is, I somehow dropped/lost a card off of one of my best spots. I'm going to have to go find that and hope it is still operative. As I was walking in to set up that camera a really nice bull was on the salt.

Check out the Reconyx cameras, they take 32GB cards with no problems.

If you got $800-900 i would... but people stealing them would be very hard to take haha

Everytime I see Stealing in the same sentence as Trailcam I get camera anxiety and need to go get mine.

Yeah, those are a little out of my price range. I'm nervous enough leaving $120 cams out. I just won't leave a piece of equipment that costs close to what one of my rifles does where it's fair game for thieves.
