jhedg Report post Posted July 31, 2012 Just want to know what most are using out there/Target knobs/Power/ Wondering if I am doing it a little overkill. This year will be a 7mm STW(Carbon Fiber Barrel) with 6-24x Bushnell G2DMR reticle, This is all if I get drawn in the leftovers
reganranch Report post Posted July 31, 2012 Hey Jedg that 7mm STW is a great round. If you ever want to let it go you remember this post and hit me up I would buy it. On to the optics now. If you are wanting to reach out a little farther then 500 yards then what scope you are wanting to buy will get you there, if you do your part. Not sure the price of bushnell scope your wanting to buy, but you could probably get a little better glass such as a Nikon monarch or Weaver scope. You will drop zoom to probably 14/16x, and maybe to a 44mm Objective, but it will be better glass so the zoom wont be needed as much with higher light refraction getting into the scope. Are you planning on ordering from online, or going to cabelas, sportsmans, basspro? I would take your price range and look through all the ones you are considering like you can at Sportmans Warehouse. And you can pick the scope that fits your eye relief and needs best.
ready2hunt Report post Posted July 31, 2012 +1 to the Nikon....hard to beat the glass for the price. I have a Bushnell scope and like it but I would pick up a Nikon in a heart beat....and if I had the money I would look at other brands such as Vortex or Swaro. By the way....there is no such thing as over kill on any gun
200"mulie Report post Posted July 31, 2012 Nikon for the price is a really good deal. I have bino's and spotting scope from them and couldn't be happier. Soon to get a rifle scope. The only difference betwwen my buddies swaro bino and my nikon action bino is only and sunset his is just lets in a tiny bit more light. But the prices difference i would stick with Nikon
rcdinaz Report post Posted July 31, 2012 My opinion is that the scope you are looking at looks very good. FFP, mil reticle with 0.1 mil adjusments. At $1K I doubt there is much else that will have better glass unless you get used and jump up. I have an old 4200 Elite and eve nin the old scope the glass is pretty good and Bushnell seems to be working very hard on theie Elite Tactical products. I remeber their service was pretty good but it has been years since I had any of their tools. You could look at Vortex PST, Sightron SIII, and Zeiss which are right in the same price point with the features in the Bushnell. You have one thing I think important covered and that is matching turret and reticle measurements. Since you are paying for the carbon fiber barrel take a little time and check out the weight of the scopes you are considering as well. You save a #1-#1.5 on your barrel you may want to err on a ligher scope in keeping with the theme you built the gun in. I think you could save some money with a Nikon or other scopes but you won't have the features that make the Bushnell you are looking at a great scope and a super value. I was not aware of this new reticle FFP scope from Bushnell until you posted it looks pretty slick. my $0.02!
jhedg Report post Posted July 31, 2012 Ya I have one on a XLR stocked 284 I was making hits out to 1200yds on some gongs like it was nothing in some pretty high winds. I contribute it to the scope, and reticle. Amazing glass
