ready2hunt Report post Posted July 29, 2012 What a tool! "Nobody owns this spot but it's my spot" - did this person really write that thinking that it sounded sane? We should all get together and hunt around that very spot so nothing can get to it in Aug. just on principle....thanks for sharing that...it made my day! trophyhnter Report post Posted July 30, 2012 Interesting note........Good luck with that situation. I have seen and almost involved in a fight when I picked up my friend from a water hole at the Kaibab because the other hunter owned waterhole....Not my fight but somehow I was called out because I was there and this hunter was going to kick everyones a$$....after all was his waterhole. Be careful you never know who your dealing with! Azlance, LMAO. You might want to add something about spooning if it cold. You will freak him out for sure! Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted July 30, 2012 I got one of those notes this recently, just got off the phone with the guy and am glad we got to talk. He was cool and so was I... and we will be trading info rather than trying to screw eachother over. Life is too short to play games with others hard work and effort. Best of luck, I have also had letters like yours that imply rudeness... that makes it a much tougher deal. If you can't hunt along side them then, Out hunt them is what I always shoot for. Elkhunter1 Report post Posted July 30, 2012 Here is the letter I am going to start leaving when I find a camera or stand: Dear Hunter, So glad to see someone else is hunting in this area. It has been many years since I have run into anyone else hunting this spot. I know this will sound strange, or awkard, but I enjoy hunting in the buff. I have been hoping to find someone else who enjoys this too, and will be my hunting partner. My wife left me many years ago, and ever since then I have realized that I was with the wrong type of person. I am looking for a guy who loves to hunt, and am looking for more than just a hunting partner. I hope this doesn't scare you off. We can keep this secret between you me and the deer. Hope to see ya opening morning, even if your not interested, please come, I would love to meet you. P.S. You will know it is me when you see what I am wearing, or not wearing... Your fellow hunter, Chad Hey Lance we're not seeing another side of you are we? That is some real funny stuff right there. Call me I'll hunt with you. Best of luck, I have also had letters like yours that imply rudeness... that makes it a much tougher deal. If you can't hunt along side them then, Out hunt them is what I always shoot for. Last year I went the day before the opener to a water hole I planned on hunting and there was a blind there already. I left my # to work something out with the guy. The next day while sitting my blind in another spot he text me. We worked out a schedule for sitting the water and we exchanged info. I never met the guy but just 2 weeks ago he text me and we are still exchanging info. I like to work things out with fellow hunters and not be confratational but this guy that left the note sounds like a prick. The funny thing is the water has been dried up for the last couple months. My partner wanted to ruin the spot but I didnt let him. I left my cam there and another one very well hidden if they want to steal it or damage it. Happy hunting. Coach Report post Posted July 30, 2012 Lance is definately on a roll. Good stuff right there, and a great belly-laugh. The good news is he didn't steal anything and he's trying to be a "stand-up" guy. The bad news is, he really thinks that you are in "his spot". Not to distract this thead too much, but I had a similar experience years ago. I had a good water tank in 24A all scoped out. Had cameras there for weeks and when I finally went in to set up a blind, I notice someone else had a double bull set up on the wrong side of the tank. I wrote a note similar to the one you posted, but said basically, "looks like we're hunting the same tank, let's get in touch so we aren't on top of eachother." So that night I get an email from Randy Phillips from Archery Headquarters and he's got Fred Eichler set up on this tank. Well, to be honest, I didn't know who either of them were, but they had a lot of interest in some of my cameras on the tank. Randy said I could probably get some free arrows or something if I had footage of the buck Fred ended up taking. I got some pix sent from Randy's phone and just didn't think much of it. One night, I couldn't sleep so I start flipping channels. I found this guy Fred Eichler for Eastman's Hunting Journal hunting coues in AZ, so I decided to watch it. No kidding this was the same tank, the same hunt I was on and the pictures I had on my phone and email were actually the same ones used in the show. Kind of a funny story. That tank is going to be awesome this year and I'd like to try and take a bear off it in August.

Is it the one where Fred Wichler cries after he shoots the buck? It was a pretty awesome shot acrossed the tank!

Your fellow hunter, Chad Dear Chad, I like your style and class. I accept your offer and hope that we can hunt some big bruins "bear naked!" Or some large deer "buck naked!" I'll see you at the water hole. Your Bluffing in the Buff fellow hunter, Dahc ...Seriously, Lance, that is CLASSIC!! I have been at two remote water holes that I "felt" no one else had ever been to in a hundred years, only to discover a trail camera appearing at each one a few months later. I left much friendlier notes and had great talks, phone calls, emails, etc with both of the other camera owners. We ended up sharing data and our various hunting dates to make sure that each of us could enjoy those spots without conflict and It worked out great. One individual was a fellow CWT member. Its much better to "share" a spot and make new friends, rather than fight over it and create animosity and enemies. I hope things work out for you. The other hunter should have shown more class!!
Coach Report post Posted July 30, 2012 Yeah 270WSM, that's the same hunt. It's really not that big of a tank, and I still wonder why he was so emotional. Guess he finally crossed something off his list, but I gurantee there are a lot harder working hunters on this site. Not trying to take anything away from that hunt, but I find it a little strange when some celebrity shows up, does a hunt that you or I or our neighbor has done, and somehow gets rock star treatment. He didn't find that tank, he didn't scout it. Now I sound like POS current President with the "you didn't build that" comment. But to be fair, he didn't. He didn't do the scouting, he didn't get off the trails and find this spot on his own. Someone else did all the ground-work and put him where he needed to be. Then he did a show about how hot it was in his blind until "his" buck showed up, I've been hunting that area for coming on 3 decades now - that's a long time to look at the same stuff every year and dig in a little deeper each summer or fall. When you see one of your hot spots get turned into - I dunno - advertisement lettuce? Guess I'm just venting now, but I'd way rather see the celebs go hunt Texas or Africa. Arizona is way too pristine and pefrect to let the money rollers and big cameras turn it into cheap horn porn.
