Do any of these cameras have a tracking systems such as cells phones when they track the sim card in them? twigsnapper Report post Posted July 27, 2012 My buddy and I were driving home from checking cameras the other day and we came up with an idea. Buy some old broken trail cameras and hang them in easy to spot places. Bait the dirtbags in and catch em with a well hidden cam up about 8-10' in a tree. My guess when they commit to stealing your camera they do not stick around too long to inspect for hidden cameras. That way, hopefully you are only out a broken camera. You might even go as far as to put some funny pics on an old SD card so when they get it home and check the pics they only get crap. If you're good on computers your could even put a virus on the SD card and when they pop it into their computer Blamo!!!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The Forest Service and BLM are the only agencies willing to get involved with this activity and their involment is the removal of cameras , tree stands and pop up blinds when they find them... Its not illegal for the FS, BLM or AZF&G to remove any of this equipment from the field! This removal activity is at their discretion! So the option to leave it alone is there! Yes there are a few non Goverment scumbags taking our hunting equipment but mostly it is G men at fault! Even when a G&F employee got caught red handed on film taking cams off trees and with many marked cameras in his possesion he was only dismissed from his position and transfered or rehired at a later date! This really happened in unit 9 two years ago! Booby trapping cameras to do harm to anyone is illegal.... If anyone does this better be careful because harming a FS , a LEO or a BLM employee would be a federal offense! The law dosn't seem to protect anyone but the scumbags..... Oh yea I checked/reshearched and it is also a federal offense to introduce a virus via a SD card into some one elses computer even if they take the card from your equipment without your permission....Writing or transferring virus's knowingly is a federal offense! Are there really any technogeek hunter types inteligent enough to do this , not on this billy bob redneck site! I know it seems unfair but its the law. Friggin laws $uck wind! I dare any FS , BLM or Game and Fish management persons to come on here and discuss this topic in an official manner! They are way to busy counting trail cams to address this topic! Every time this topic comes up on this site or other hunting sites its just the hunters whining and getting all puffed up about the so called "thefts" it would be a big change to actually hear from some branch of the authorities on this! JLW Report post Posted July 27, 2012 I had another trail camera taken. This time they used a cordless grinder to get to it. I am going to set up other cameras in the area and hide them so the next time I hope to post their pictures for all to see! that sucks! we were just talking about that kinda stuff yesterday. A guy here at work asked why someone would steal them and I explained there are thieves in all facets of life. hunters, tree huggers, forest service, police officers, postman, store clerk, Presidents,the list goes on and on. this is sad! Now I'm paranoid! You should not have to worry about these sorts of things, we all have enough to worry about besides some jerk stealing our stuff! Its also rediculously easy to set up a simple command prompt in an .exc file that can cause you problems for hours (if you know what you are doing, otherwise it make take much much longer), stepping it up to mess with other files (like say, of SyS32, or restore points to mess with them later) is just as easy. Most of us are in small towns and word spreads quickly. Something like that can and should stick with a guy for a long time. Willyhunts2 Report post Posted July 28, 2012 Getting way to involved for me. I've heard of cams being jacked for a while, had mine out for a good 10 years before my first was stolen. Ever since then had 2 more jacked. I think it's all about ethics and these kids dads not woopin enough butt and teaching them the right way. I know it dosnt matter what age the person is cause I have 30 to 50 or 60 year old people messing with the cams now a days. If you get the guys license plate and picture of his face nothing will happen unless he admits to it. Just the way it is works. That guy can say, yah I was there and left after checking out that spot. Someone else came right after me and stole that cam.
