Trail camera thiefs

Recommended Posts

I had another trail camera taken. This time they used a cordless grinder to get to it. I am going to set up other cameras in the area and hide them so the next time I hope to post their pictures for all to see!

Cordless grinders are a standard issue Forest Service tool! Good luck getting anything back if its the FS taking stuff!

Had my first one stolen 2 weeks ago, we've been using these for a few years now I was wondering when it was going to finally happen. Sucks, but its part of the game.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the a-hole taking it started a fire cutting it off with a grinder!!

Are there particular units or areas that are more susceptible to theft? Obviously high-traffic areas and waterholes, but besides that? Thinking specifically of Unit 27...heading up to scout in a couple weeks and putting out at least one camera. Just wondering if that's a common unit for thefts.

Thanks!

To answer some of the above questions..... No it isn't unit 27, although unit 27 is bad for this type of thing too. It wasn't the FS because they would have taken the lock box with them. When the FS comes in and takes things they cut locks off and take everything. No this person(s) cut the lock box itself and made it worthless then just took the camera.

I've been looking at a camera by Spypoint which is a two part set up. The main camera sets up as you normally would install your cameras. The second part is the "black box" which can be hidden up to 250' away I believe. The main camera sends the pics to the hidden black box and if your camera is stolen, most likely the thief's picture will be taken and you would at least not loose your pictures and probably have the low life scum on camera.

The down fall is, I believe both units take an sd card and I think the main camera still stores the pics as well as sends them to the black box. I would be happier if the thief didn't get any pictures but I'm not positive about this detail.

I have a hodge podge of new and old cameras, so buying a "new line up" is not in my immediate future, but I really like this concept!

This new product will have many copy cats out there within no time. It's just too good of an idea for it not to take hold. I'm assuming with this new design, we will have thieves' ugly mugs plastered on the web for all to see. I'm not a huge fan of placing a second camera, the lose of one is bad enough, two would be just unbearable!

Yep.... also looking into this as well but first will try the seperate camera set up. I don't want these guys or guy to see the camera and recognize it is a two part system and then back out. I want to catch this scum!

Ha I like the gun powder idea. Not enough to kill him but enough to send a clear message! I'm going to have to figure out a way to try that.

Huntlines this really sucks bro! How many cameras were taken total? Now I'm a little paranoid about my cameras now. They've been fine from may to the first of this month. But as August gets closer more people out in the woods, and unfortunately more Aholes too.
