redneck74 Report post Posted July 14, 2006 IN RESPONSE TO BRIAN: I got a question for one o'them know all fellas, just what exactly is max points for a species? I heard it a lot, how many points do you have for sheep Michael? Aint pick'n on ya, just curious if there is sucha thing. -------------------- Brian K. Fisher First of all, I never said that I knew it all. I only stated that on this forum and others there are many people that say they know this person and that person and that they have an iside on when the results are going to be posted. I just think its all crap and that they will never be posted when the AZSUCK says that they will. Brian what are you talking about? Are you telling me that there is no such thing as max points? And it does sond like you are picking on me!!! I started applying for sheep when they started the bonus point system, I lived in Texas and flew my butt to AZ and took the Hunter education class and test...One more point. Then I got the loyalty point which would equal max points. Does that clear it up for you? You do the math. I dont know the exact # because I cant recall nor can I get on the AZSUCK website to get current numbers. How on earth can you not know about max points...did you just start hunting last year? muleybull Report post Posted July 14, 2006 michael, sorry you wasted your time flying to AZ to take hunter ed just to get a extra bonus point when I can draw a trophy elk hunt before you, third choice with less bonus points.

azpackhorse Report post Posted July 15, 2006 Michael, I honestly was not pick'n on you, sorry you feel that way. My question is a real one, I do not know how many points are maximum, never really gave it much thought. I don't know when the point system started, never had much need for them. I guess I could research it myself and do some basic math but I am lazy, besides it makes for conversation to kill the time until they post the draw results on 7/21 @ 5:15pm MST. My comment about the "know all fellas" was aimed at those of us that like to guess, and think we know when the results are com'n out.........you coined the phrase not me. I started hunt'n year before last...........................come on now...........hug time

muleybull Report post Posted July 15, 2006 We called all 6 regional offices and asked them all when the draw would be available. What we got was somewhere between July 17-28, maybe after August first, dont know no one tells us anything, and maybe by the end of the day (this was yesterday). Figured I'd narrow it down for you all. Oh, and I almost forgot "thats not really our department"
azpackhorse Report post Posted July 15, 2006 I would really love to get another antelope tag but I would be a little upset if I was one of the 40 people who draw a unit 19a archery tag and I didn't get my tag by the 11th of August (when the hunt starts) I wonder how that would work if they are going to be running late? Fortunately unit 19a was not one of my choices but if it were I would be stress'n right now.
donniedent Report post Posted July 17, 2006 I think where it starts is with the counts. Wildlife managers in more northern states actually have it a little easier because they have deer and elk on winter ranges. This concentrates the animals a little more and probably makes them a little easier to count. Here they don't have such concentrated areasto live in during the winter, therefore everything the biologists are trying to do takes longer. The last meetings to set tag limits don't end until the end of April. Then they have re-write the regs and they come out in the middle of May.... and so on and so forth. They deffinately need to do something about the problems they've been having but over all they do pretty good. I'm not talking about the rest of what they do but with the draw they do pretty good. It will be ALOT better next year when they accept apps earlier for goats and elk. I feel really sorry for the guys that put in for an archery Antelope tag.... I'd be going CRAZY if I were them. couesdiehard Report post Posted July 17, 2006 To heck with those guys that put in for archery antelope. I have a December General WT tag that I need to start scouting every spare moment for. But I can't even start until they tell me where I am drawn. Let alone my early bull elk, general antelope, javelina,...... Them archery antelope hunters need to start their own website to cry on each others shoulders! STAY THE HECK OFF MY WEBSITE, THIS IS WHERE I CRY ABOUT MY TAGS OR LACK THEREOF!!!! Sorry about that. Not sure where that came from. Big-game draw time has been a long time coming this year. I apologize to you archery antelope hunters especially! Both of you. Ha Ha.
