Two Javelina Bag Limit (under some circumstances)!

Recommended Posts

Sign me up. They are one of my favorite animals to hunt. They make for an enjoyable hunt and also make it easy to introduce a novice to hunting. Generally if you know where they hang out, you can get a novice into them and they will usually get the pump that all of us hunters enjoy. Great Idea G&F.

Nice! I and others have made this suggestion over the last several years. Hopefully hunters with multiple tags will spread the harvest over multiple herds and not just go hit the same herd a bunch of times.

That would be nice...I usually get an archery tag to overlap deer in Jan, and this would extend my season by allowing a leftover rifle or HAM tag...

This is going to free up some time for a few extra gals I know to attend the women's pig camp this coming year too.

I agree with you Amanda on that. There was a time when I had several heards in an area I hunted and I would stop hunting a certain herd if I thought to many were taken from it. I also would not let my friends hunt them herds either or they were 86'ed from my camp.

I'm hoping this goes thru. :)

To this date I still think about my last javelina hunt and how much fun it was with good friends. I greatly enjoy hunting them as well. The herd must be doing well for someone like me to be able to find them, as glassing those little stink pigs usually kicks my but. Personally, I don't all out agree with the upped bag limit. I feel (without doing an actual study) that the herd is where it needs to be and possibly doubling the allotted amount of animals taken would have a negative effect on the herd. Especially considering I do not believe most people would take their two from different herds. If you know where a herd is and how to hunt them, it tends to not be that difficult to fill a tag. Don't get me wrong, if it passes, I will get two tags, I just don't feel personally that its the best idea.

This is good news, I can HAM hunt in payson in 22 at my trailer and than pickup a rifle tag in a unit that I am putting together a large group hunt for with a tradition of leftover tags. Pretty cool idea and a great way to sell the tags that have gone wanting the last several years. I am in, JLG.

There shouldn't be any concern about extra harvest because these tags have already been approved as biologically justified. I do, however, share the concern that guys will harvest from the same herd in the same year (on different hunts). I think that could be solved by requiring the second tag come from a different unit, not just a different hunt number.

So as it sits now (if it gets approved), I could get an archery tag, and then a rifle tag, right since they are different hunts?

It doesn't just have to be left over tag for the second right? You could get an over the counter tag too? That's how I read it..only one from the draw system and the other from some other method of getting a tag (i.e. left over, over the counter) Is that how you guys understand it?
