Trail Camera Security - some homemade boxes to share

I posted on some other threads about home-made boxes I have used to protect my camera. Several members have PM'd me for more info on the design so I thought I'd just start a thread here and put the pictures up for everyone. Of course, if someone is determined enough, they will take it - or destroy it.

 

One caveat. These designs involve lag bolting a steel box to a tree. If you are offended by that practice, or want to discuss the legality of it, I would prefer not to do it on this thread. For what it's worth, treestand steps screw into the tree as far as the bolts I use to secure my cameras.

 

The basic idea is to keep the lock inside the box or protected so it can’t be snipped with bolt cutters and attach the box to a tree with lag bolts that are only accessible when the box is open.

 

Here’s one for a DLC Covert 3.0 CA

Two halves. The front slides down onto the back. There’s a lock lug sticking out from each side.

The back side of the box. The serrated “wings” ensure that you can’t get a blade in from the side.

 

 

All done. Those little chain “ears” are just in case I want to put a python lock on it to give it the illusion that it’s not lag bolted to the tree. I never use them and will eventually cut them off.

 

 

Here’s one for a Moultrie M80. Little deeper body and I added a swiveling mount for this one.

This one uses a traditional hinge design with the lock on the opposite side.

 

Gotta cover up the lock so it can’t be snipped.

 

 

Hinge. Notice the top cover slides under a sturdy lip so there’s no pry point there.

 

 

Holes in the back for lag bolts. Big holes in the box, small ones at in the pivoting mount.

They’re a little heavy, but it would take some work to get the camera out of one.
