Hunting with the aid of a Vehicle

How about this , Shooting from a vehicle parked on private property thet you own or have permission to hunt!!!!!

On another note.

I once got a ticket for sitting in a tree stand after dark/night hunting after legal hours, during archery season. I was waiting to be picked up by my buddy and there had been a big bear hanging around all day!!! As for a light all I had was a small mag light.... Warden wrote the ticket and confiscated my bow and pack...It was Friday opener--- He did not take my license or tag, lucky I had a back up bow and gear so I hunted the week end and tagged out! Beat the ticket in court weeks later, the judge ruled that merely having a pen light and bow did not show intent to illegally take.... Going to court cost two days off work , gas motel ect.. over 2grand all said and done ... Still better than pleading guilty,paying a fine & losing lic for a coupkle of years... Some times ya jus gotta fight!

Road hunting, or using your vehicle to aid in harvesting of game is decided by the game manager and every situation is different. I've seen people driving roads with 2 people in the bed of the truck sitting in chairs with rifles laying in their laps. To me I would say that's road hunting but to someone else they might not consider it to be. I think it's a lot like a traffic violation from a city cop, they are all differnt and some might right you ticket for doing 5 over the speed limit while others will pull you over check your license and let you off with a warning. So basically I think it depends on the manager and the situation. No expert here, just my thoughts. It's one of those subjects that is a lot like the baiting discussions. I know if I'm driving to a diff area and the game I'm hunting happens to be off the road on the way to my new spot I'm have and will drive out of sight from the animal, get out of the truck, knock an arrow and circle back around on foot. If that's considered illegal then I'm guilty.

I just keep a white-tipped cane in the truck with me so whenever I see the law I can jump out and play blind! If they don't get the hint I'm pretty good at playin deaf also

In response to firstcoueswas80, I don't want to get in to it. But yes attorney fees loss of work etc... It adds up over time My point is, anytime your talking with a LEO, thats what game and fish officers are. They may or may not be good people, most are. However anything you say WILL be used against you in court. Trust me! It may not even be they way you said. It happened to me. It will be their interpretation. (This thread is a perfect Example) Don't believe me, try em. Their written statement will be what they remember if they aren't recording you. Just because their talking to you about hunting doesn't make them your friend. They have a job to do. No offense guys. I appreciate what you do! I'm sure it's not easy. My point is don't be nieve'.

I try to obey all the hunting regs but every once in a while there's a got ya. We've all been there. And of course that's when ya get caught.

I have been told by several wardens that in order to not be considered pursuing game with a vehicle, you need to exit your vehicle and attempt to pursue the game. So basically you would need to walk towards the game and get away from the truck. This law can be used against you in most any situation while hunting. You could actually be driving to your hunting area and see an animal that you want to shoot. Just stop the truck, shut it off and walk away from it and this is legal hunting as long you are off the road. I would also recommend that you are careful with any conversation you have with a warden. They listen very well to everything you tell them. David

I saw G&F setting up a decoy deer on the Eagle Creek road in Unit 27 many years ago. I would be curious as too how many guys they ticketed for road hunting. I don't road hunt so I wouldn't know how somone would interpret the use of a vehicle.

That's intrapment what a bunch of extortionist bastards. Wouldn't catch me road hunting I would just look at through my rifle scope like I love when newbies without glass do it to me hahaha.

+1 on being VERY careful about your words and actions when dealing with ANY law enforcement officer, including G&F. If you happen to find one on a day he/she is looking to "make some busts", your words can and will be used against you - even out of context.

 

I generally love to see G&F out there and even used to wave them down and start a conversation. I've stopped this practice, and now let them drive on by. 9 of 10 are super good folks and will tell you anything you want to know. But if you happen to hit that 1 out of 10 that assumes everyone in the woods is a poacher - or doing something illegal, you can find yourself on the defensive real quick. These kind of guys can and will find something to use against you - the last thing you want to do is give them ammo.

 

Again, I have the upmost respect for AZGFD wardens and I want them out there doing what they do. The vast majority I've encountered in 3 decades of hunting here really have their head and heart in the right place. They want to protect our game from poachers, our forests from people dumping trash and to preserve hunting, fishing and the outdoor lifestyle we all love while protecting it from those that would abuse it.

 

That said, there are the few who have a different mentality. These guys assume everyone out there is doing something wrong, and they make it their sole purpose to go "make things right" by their minds. If you encounter one of these guys, whether it's G&F, DPS, local sheriff's posse, whatever - they will do anything and say anything to get you say something they can use against you. Every question is loaded, a trap, and the more you say, the more rope you give them to hang you with.

 

IMO, if you want scouting advice, ask other hunters. If you are confronted by any LEO give the shortest honest anwers possible.

I've clammed up with them over the years. The new ones come out of the Police Academy with the mindset everyone is breaking laws and it is their duty to figure out how. Even had a couple old G&F friends make that statement, they said it takes about 5 years to get the academy out of them.

Huh?? When was the last time that a Wildlife Manager / Game Warden deported anyone or had anything to do with forest thinning??? Not sure how this statement has anything at all to do with this topic.....

Last time I ever talked to a G&F manager was 2005. I was on a 3rd choice hunt in unit 30B. I had already taken my deer to the check station for CWD, and then to Tucson to the butcher, and then went back to camp. My dad was out roaming around, and the G&F officer pulled into camp, I was just doing dishes and such. I said hello, and we got to talkng. I asked if wanted to see my license, and he said no. He was a pretty cool guy. He pulled out his digital camera and showed me some pics of a couple nices Mulies some guys had got down by Bisbee. We chatted for about 15 minutes, and then he left.

 

In Montana last summer, I was fishing Hebgen lake and got confronted by a Wildlife Officer, and he gave me a hard time. HE checked my truck for fish, he accused me of not being a legal resident, even though I had all the credentials. Told me it would go alot easier if I confessed.?????????? Really. Told him I had a years worth of evidence to prove my residency, and I would gladly show it to a Judge if he thought I was a liar.
