BASS Report post Posted July 13, 2012 Let me start out by saying I do not work for, support or are compensated for this in anyway. I recently purchased an app for my android devices (iphone has it also) it is put out by Deer & Deer Hunting called "Shot Placement" and I think its pretty cool for what it is. Its not a game, its more of an "instruction" application for deer hunters. I honestly think all hunters could benefit from this app, heres why. The app is very basic, a 3D deer stands on the screen, not moving, and you can rotate and zoom around it. You then click on the deer for your shot. A red line appears that follows the path of the shot. Once again you can zoom and rotate o see the exit. Now the cool part! Using the slider at the top, you are able to peel the layers off the buck to reveal its organs. Now I am not a doctor, didnt play one on tv, heck I didnt even stay at a Holiday Inn, so what the heck did that shot hit!?! Well, if you click on the icon on the upper right, it will tell you what the hit, what the tracking sign will look like (blood, stomach matter etc) and how long to wait. Pretty cool! This app showed me the shot ive told myself would take if presented wouldnt be that great of a hot after all, and a slight change would be many times better. Ive showed this to old hunters as well with similar results, the shot they thought was good, wasnt and end up hitting the paunch. My final thoughts are that this app is fun, not something you will be able to play with for hours upon hours day after day, but ive played with it a lot more than I thought I would. Now, is it worth the $9. 99? Maybe. I think half that price would be better, and easier to justify. If you have a new hunter, this app is perfect for them to learn from. Ive been hunting for most of my young life, and I learned a thing or two also. Purposely making bad shots to learn from them was a major help I think.
