Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 3, 2006 I returned Sunday night from Sunrise. This was the first time I had been to this shoot, as I have always been invoved with the Max Hamilton shoot with Flagstaff Archers over the 4th of July. I think that Sunrise must be the premier shoot in AZ. The terrain, scenery, course layout, and shot difficulty were better than what I have experienced in the other shoots I've been to. Was able to shoot course 3 off the chair lift Sat morning before the competitve shoot at 11:30. After the competitive round on Sunday morning (finished about 2pm), I was shot out and did not make another run off the chair in the afternoon. Was fortunate to have missed the hail both days and only had a light sprinkle for a few minutes. One crack of thunder right above the trees Sunday morning did get our attention. Anyone else attend the Sunrise shoot and have a great time? Doug~RR
dave Report post Posted July 4, 2006 Rojo, I agree, this was a great shoot. In my humble opinion, it was better than last year. I hate to say one shoot is better than another because we need everyone that can put on a shoot to do it. The shoot you can attend is the best shoot of the year!!! I will say this, I will make every effort I can in my schedule to attend this event next year. I shot it last year and this year was even better. I saw a lot of family envolvement. Is there a more beautiful place in this world? I can't wait until the BHH and the Happy Jack shoot!

Looking forward to next year. Red Rabbit if you go next year give a heads up and we will have to make some introductions! Rojo, I agree, this was a great shoot. BowNut Report post Posted July 5, 2006 This was great shoot. Some of the best courses I have shot. Just wish my scores showed it. I did ok the 2nd day but the first day was a humbling experience. I did not get a chance to shoot the fun courses but sounds like you guys had fun. I hope to get off work to go next year but the holidays are hard to get off. This was my first year to make it there and can not wait to go back.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 5, 2006 BowNut, Which competitive courses did you shoot? I shot 3 Sat and 2 Sunday. The uphill/downhill on 3 required a lot of thought. Really liked the black bear shot (#13?) on course 2 which was across the creek by a boulder. Not the hardest to judge yardage, but a nice setup. RR
Redman Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I was there and had a great time, saw one silver Chevy quad cab with a Coueswhitetail.com sticker on it. I would encourage any archery shooter/hunter to attend this event next year. It was great. I would only recommend that a light backpack with a rain poncho and a sweatshirt be brought. I was caught off guard on Sunday when it began to rain and temps fell in the 50's. Redman
BowNut Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Red Rabbit, I shot 2 the first day 149 with 2- 0's and 3 on Sun 170. I can not remember the last time I missed a target completely let alone 2. The up and downhills killed me I think. Redman, That was my truck parked behind the building all weekend. Kinda funny the fun shoot courses got lots of rain and we just got a sprinkle on the comp. course Sun. just over the hill.
dave Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I need to expand my math skills and shoot with BowNut sometime. Holy Smokes.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 6, 2006 A friend at camp mentioned the rain and hail on the noncomp courses, and I thought it was strange that the comp courses just caught a sprinkle. The one bolt of lightning and subsequent thunder directly overhead on Sunday did catch everyone's attention. I will make a great effort to attend next year also. Will try for all 3 days so I can hit more of the fun courses before the comp rounds. Freind and I shot a course off the chair lift Sat morn, and I think that really helped with the up/down angles on the comp courses. Shot a 176 both days on 3 & then 2. The BHH is in 2 1/2 weeks. Who here is gonna shoot for the buckles? Doug~RR
BowNut Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Red Rabbit, I am sitting in first for the Triple Crown in the Hunter Class by 15 points. It would be nice to get both but would be very very happy with one. But as we all know in this sport anything can happen as I learned this weekend in Sunrise. Just need to shoot my best and what happens happens. Dave, I wish I could have added wrong in my favor but they double score!LOL!!
dave Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I can't wait for the BHH either. I am sitting third to last in my class. I am going to make a hard run on impoving my position. I will bet BowNuts $20 I can improve my position more than he can his. Well Red Rabbit, I guess that will put me in the money

RR I love the lake its the other course I don't do as well with.
dave Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Don't worry about that other course BowNut. I killed most the rocks up there a couple years ago. Heck, last year I didn't see near as many. Good luck my friend.
