How good are you gsp's around kids? My brother has a Vizsla that is excellent with his kids but I've actually been leaning toward GSP's. As they are bred to hunt do they do well if exercised well as a family pet?

Finevans-

My family has owned gsp's since I was young and they are great with kids. I think they have to be raised around them though. We have never had any problems with our dogs around kids. The only problem with them and all dogs similar in breed is the have a ton of energy. They need to be ran and played with.

thanks briant, My brother said the same thing about his V, he said he went with the V over a GSP because the people he spoke with, probably V owners, convinced him it was a better fit. He says his is doing 6-12 miles 4 days a week training with his wife for a marathon and then going trail running or mountain biking with him at least once a week. That's a lot of mileage on a dog that also takes off chasing deer that meander through their yard. I think they are fantastic dogs and just don't see myself with a lab or golden retriever like the great american family says I should but I also don't want to do the dog injustice by not hunting with it. I have nothing against hunting but I just didn't grow up doing it and don't see myself taking it up anytime soon, of course if I own a bird dog I may have to take it up :).

The puppies have been around our 3 girls since they were born...they love people and kids. Our big dogs are great with our kids as well. They are good hunters but it is not necessary to hunt them. They just need walks and runs. They are extremely intelligent...almost people like. They are an amazing breed. Their stamina is like nothing I have ever seen. If you are interested we have 4 females and they are all good looking healthy pups.
