reganranch Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Hey guys here's some food for thought. I have read a little over ten of these, 100 books on the list. Which ones have you guys read and what were your thoughts? Any suggestions on what books to add that would contribute to intellectual thought of many influential men of history? I am going to pursue finishing this list it is definetly a great start to bettering ones self and expanding our horizon. I made a Brave New World parallel in Medical Ethics about Government control over Medicine and Genetics, and not one student in that class drew the parallel I was making. Its not a big surprise the U.S is not in the top ten on the Global Academic Standings. Post your thoughts here guys about the list and individual novels on it, liked it, hated it, felt indifferent about it let me know. http://artofmanlines...l-mans-library/
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Intersting list.....I was surprised how many I had already read. But most of that was because it was required reading in school..... here are a few I have read recently that you might find interesting. Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/0393317552 A short history of nearly everthing by Bill Bryson http://www.amazon.co.../ref=pd_sim_b_5 The Big Burn by Timothy Eagan http://www.amazon.co...teddy roosevelt
audsley Report post Posted July 6, 2012 I saw the list for the first 25. Wouldn't have been my list, although The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris would definitely be on my list. It was an excellent read and offered some insight into what it used to mean to be a Republican. I like to think of myself as having been a fairly hip sort of guy in my earlier years, but Jack Kerouac is a waste of time in my opinion. Maybe he was a hip sort of guy in his own time, but those of who were young in the 60s and 70s are way past him.
billrquimby Report post Posted July 6, 2012 I had read eight of the first 25. Not one of those eight would I read again, and there was nothing among the remaining 17 that interested me enough to make me search it out. Bill Quimby
Snapshot Report post Posted July 6, 2012 The most important book not on the list......... "Men are from Mars. women are from Venus".

reganranch Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Not my cup of tea... i was forced to read some of them in high school... i can think of a lot of better books. Yeah Lance there is probably 10-15 high school litetature that could be fanned out of the hundred and replaced by other germane novels. Lets hear some of these better books? I have read some of the high school books in here that I choose not to read again. These are separate from the recent ten novels I mentioned in my first post. reganranch Report post Posted July 7, 2012 This is by far not "Thee ordained list" sent from heaven to earth by far. Every man's library will be different but there will be similarities among our favorites. Just throw out novels that you guys appreciate.

Post your thoughts here guys about the list and individual novels on it, liked it, hated it, felt indifferent about it let me know. http://artofmanlines...l-mans-library/ I hated reading because I was forced to do so in school. I faked every book report and had all the cheer leaders do my homework. Am I proud of it? No, but it got me thru school and let me play sports. I never read a single book in my life until a few years ago when I read "Sixty Years A Hunter" by our very own Bill Quimby and I read it twice. Bill gave the wife and I another book called "Memories From Greer", which Bill co-wrote. Now I have two books to my list. I guess it's nothing to be proud about and probably why I'm not as smart as the rest of yens but I will bet them there other authors ain't got nothing up on Mr. Quimby. So what I'm trying to say is you can add some of Bill's books to the list of influential men of history. The wife and I had the pleasure of visiting with Bill a few years ago and he is the most interesting man to listen to. What I would give to have walked in his shoes. If you get a chance type in Bill Quimby on the internet and look up his profile and accomplishments. TJ
reganranch Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Yes i am going to read Bills book soon. I've heard nothing but praise from everyone here. There are some books on this list that have had influence over the course of history. The Bible is also on this list, it is by far the most influential book in all of the world. Societies have attempted to eradicate it many times, and still exist today. Its not only a guide for how a man should live, but treat others around him. There are people that risk their lives to obtain one page of it. Similar to every topic the list is should be take with a grain of salt, however I advise you to look at the entire list. I would not critique something knowing a quarter of the material. There are students that do it all the time at the UofA. It happens in every class from my industrial engineering classes to historical courses.
THOR Report post Posted July 7, 2012 You all should check out the books by C.J. Box...they are great! They are mystery mixed with hunting, he is my cousin from Wyoming. I don't read that much but I couldn't put these down.
