Sunflower Fire...how it started

Recommended Posts

We saw them from a vantage point, at the scene when it first started. We waited for them to drive out and stopped them to find out what was going on. While I talked to the driver, my buddy got the plate number. They didn't stick around. We waited for the USFS to show up and gave them the info.

Thats awesome that you caught them. I hope you got/get a reward

I think back to all the really bad choices I've made in life. I'm grateful that most turned out to be lessons learned instead something much bigger and much worse.

My family and I along with close friends were camping at Crab Tree (Apache Lake) a little over a year ago. There were two young couples camped next to us who were doing their fair share of drinking. At some point, one of the guys decided to fire off a flare gun. First one dropped into Apache and the second landed up the hill about 250 yards from camp. I fire quickly broke out and EVERYONE was ordered to evacuate with our trailers and or camping gear as the fire grew in size. He certainly ruined our trip, but whatever happened to him was most likely pretty severe, as he was detained and arrested.

I'm under the understanding that all costs incurred are past onto the guilty party and they can't file bankruptcy. Is it true, they're wages can be garnished for life for these type events?

Justin, I've probably spent more days and time in Crabtree than anyone I know. Many many good times and a ton of memories have been made there. The big cottonwood tree has finally fell down where I hung many critters over the years. :)

Of what use are these kind of shells? I can't imagine why they are even legal to sell!! Is there any need for a shell that shoots fire? Maybe I read it wrong, puzzling to me...

I want to know who names the wildfires. Is there some guy in a backroom somewhere who's job is to figure out names for wildfires and hurricanes?

Don't want a reward. The whole thing is ugly. I just look forward to the monsoon to squelch this fire so the area "may" open up again. I am anxious to check my camera, or what's left of it, and get back to scouting.

It makes me sick to read some of the idiotic comments posted at the bottom of the online news articles. Emotion and lack of intelligence from people obviously not from AZ, Libs, heck.....even racist comments.....huh?

Being a father of two sons in their mid-20's, I have mixed feelings about the young man that was arrested. Yup, I'm pissed that my favorite coues area burned up. Yup, it was REALLY stupid what he did. On one hand, he broke the law, and there are penalties. On the other hand, I guess I have some sympathy.....he may be a good kid, just got a little crazy (been there done that). I pray he can get past this, all these boys learn a lesson, and he can move on.

I remember I was 8 years old. Not sure if any of you tried this as a kid, but, I would stick a match in the end of my BB gun and shoot the match at the wall of our house.

Those matches back then would ignite on impact.

I caught our dry bermuda grass lawn on fire........wow what an idiot......lucky the garden hose was right there.

I got two whoppins.......one for burning the lawn and putting our house in danger of burning down and the other for putting an object in the barrel of my BB gun.

Yep he did a stupid thing. At least this time they called 911 themselves. That shows a little responsibility. Not to condone his actions.

Here in America you can buy a car that goes 150 MPH. You can buy a gun that is fully auto. You can buy a 50 gallon drum of explosives, you can buy a big arse bottle of 180 proof liquor. You can buy a grenade launcher. I love America.
