KGAINES Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Both my neighbors dogs were bit last year and she was told by the vet that the antivenom treatment would cost around 1000 dollars, he told her benedryl and aspirin would be her best alternative. Both her dogs were bit in the face and they both pulled through fine, and that is all I did for my dog. I just thank God that it wasn't my wife or kids. Diamondbackaz Report post Posted May 5, 2004 One of my shorthairs was bit right on top of the snout in my back yard. It was an $800 vet bill with the anti venom. The dog started to get better in the matter of minutes once the IV started flowing. It boils down to how much your dog is worth to you because it is a crap shoot if you don't do the anti venom. The vet recomended it because it was a bad bite in a bad location. One of my cats got bit in the face and got it by one fang. She pulled through without the anti venom. The vet made two good calls. KGAINES Report post Posted May 6, 2004 I don't know if it made a difference but my dog is between sixty and seventy pounds, bloodhound/bluetick mix she is a little over a year old. My oldest kid on the other hand is five, I can't tell you how much I am starting to hate all these shows about snakes, every single person on these shows has to pick up these snakes and talk about how nice they are. It took me an hour to explain to my four year old boy that he should stay away from all snakes and now I am constantly asking them what to do if they see a snake. GOD BLESS ALL

KGAINES Report post Posted May 7, 2004 This wasn't a rattler, but you couldn't tell my wife and kids that, she stopped at Cirkle K and when she got out the snake came out of the door frame, she didn't see it until she started to open the back door to get the kids, a guy in the car next to her seen it and shut the door on it, needless to say she got the kids out from the other side, the fire department was called by the cashier, they opened the door and seen it wasn't a rattler and released it, my wife made me check all our cars and my oldest daughter would not get in a car until I checked it over, this was about a year ago. I am just glad it wasn't a rattle snake.

KGAINES Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Ernesto I can't even begin to imagine what would have happened, my wife hates snakes, she said while she was driving my son, who was three when the picture was taken kept asking her to get the snake, but she thought he was talking about a toy, she did get the kids out with the snake there.
