naturegirl Report post Posted June 22, 2012 I came across this while scouting this week. I'm not sure what it is. It appears to have been there awhile by looking at the aged wood. The top is closed. The only opening is the covered hole on the side. The only thing I can think of is maybe a bat house?? Doesn't make much since though with where I found it. Any ideas? CouesWhitetail Report post Posted June 23, 2012 Not sure what it is, but it's definitely not a bat house.....the bats would cook inside that thing!

Lance Report post Posted June 25, 2012 Is the bottom open if you lifted it off the platform? Maybe a solar heater for what ever they wanted to heat up inside? if the bottom is open, you could place a water container in there with a spout. But if there are several in one area....what else might need heated up and able to release out that spout area?
AverageJoe Report post Posted June 25, 2012 I am thinking maybe an old way to measure snowfall/ snowpack??? Since it is up high on a platform.
naturegirl Report post Posted June 25, 2012 top is closed with metal and bottom is screwed to plywood platform. I guess I didn't think through the bat thing with the sun. the "spout" one would think is used to let something either enter or exit the canister (for lack of a better word) or why go through the effort of having the spout. I'm thinking of sending the pic to someone I know at G&F.
