twigsnapper Report post Posted June 21, 2012 I thought many of you would enjoy this write up. I follow Wade's blog and thought this might be good insight to the never ending binocular debate. http://hardcoreoutdoor.com/2011/01/29/best-15-power-binoculars---docter-swarovski-leica-vortex-and-zeiss.aspx Andy

Dan H Report post Posted June 21, 2012 Cool, thanks for posting, Andy where do you get those Airforce resolution charts, I'd like to compare 10's and 15's to see the difference. Dan
twigsnapper Report post Posted June 21, 2012 You would have to email Wade the editor of the website. I just googled Air Force resolution chart and quite a few popped up though.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 21, 2012 Interesting results, specially re the Docters. Missing in the evaluation would be the Leica Duovids, Zeiss Conquest 15x45 and the Minox 15x58 & 15x56, and Vortex Viper 15x50. Would liked to have read more about chromatic aberration, contrast, edge sharpness, and field curvature. Maybe show a data table for how fine on the resolution chart each could define, and interpupillary distance.
OpticNerd Report post Posted June 21, 2012 I'm with Red on this one. They did mention that they thought the Swaros had the best color and contrast and that the porro design of the Zeiss and Docters were more to their liking for longer periods of glassing but other then that there wasn't too much detail comparing the binos. I'd really like to see how the Zeiss did as far as edge sharpness goes. I don't recall anything being said about edge sharpness with any of the binos. On axis resolution is great but I love a nice flat FOV sharp to the edge. Good comparo non the less thanks for the link.

sjvcon Report post Posted June 23, 2012 Just 'cause this guy's never seen Minox in the field doesn't mean they aren't out there and don't deserve some consideration. Plenty of folks on this site have had good things to say about Minox (which is why I went with them ... 15x58 ED's ... good for the money). Not everyone can afford Swaro's or Leica's (though I could have and WOULD HAVE when I bought my Minox if I hadn't blown up my AC unit the DAY I WAS MAKING MY PURCHASE ... doesn't that just have a way of happening??? maybe God was telling me something). It is good to compare options in different price ranges to give people options. Let's be honest ... buying the BEST OF THE BEST in every piece of hunting equipment takes a LOT OF DOUGH ... and some people just CAN'T or WON'T do that. I agree with Red ... would also have been nice to see the Conquest's and the Vipers (especially the newer HD's) ... I understand those are both good for the money. Just my two Abe's ...
