crtbc Report post Posted June 14, 2012 So I had a talk with a game warden, and they told me I should be looking for elk during the early season along fr 300 just slightly north of the res... they showed me a map, it looked easy enough to find.... but I cannot find it nor can I find a path to find it... Can someone tell me where FR300 is just north of the res land in unit 3c it would be just north of "easterly along the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest boundary to U.S. Hwy 60" as per G&F unit boundries on the website, I am planning a scoutng trip trhis weekend and would like to start here unless of course someone has a better area or is willing to show me around :-) Thanks for any advice Patrick
standman Report post Posted June 14, 2012 Just so you know a lot of 3c in the Rodeo- Chediski fire area north of the 300 rd is closed due to fire danger and will not reopen until the rains come. Here is the link to the map. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5372845.pdf The 300rd is the southern border on this map. Brian

standman Report post Posted June 14, 2012 I have my Camp Trailer parked about 5 miles from Black Canyon Lake (Payson side of the 300 rd) Is that area closed yet ? As far as I can see on the Apache-Sitgreaves website that area is still open. Here is their website for more information: http://www.fs.usda.gov/asnf Brian
ready2hunt Report post Posted June 14, 2012 Correct me if I am wrong but FR300 is the Mogillon Rim Rd....goes all the way along the rim east to west....that would make sense becuase the elk are still up there before the snow hits.
dtower Report post Posted June 14, 2012 We saw ELK last weekend driving into Black Canyon Lake. They even watered while people were fishing 100 yards away.
crtbc Report post Posted June 14, 2012 so apparently no scouting until late...LOL no worries but it looks like it gets recinded july 31 so we can still hunt there...and the areas are north of fr300 when I was told to stay south of 300....is 300 road itself closed or just the lands north of it? G&F recommends scouting below 260 which bidects the unit... I'm sure there have got to be good scouting areas I can go to south of 260 right?? or is that the area we are talking about and I can't go?? Thanks
el diablo Report post Posted June 14, 2012 If your heading from the Circle K towards the reservation the 300 rd is just before you enter the res. You can't miss it. It's a main road. If you see the sign that says your entering the res just turn around I believe it's bout 1/4 mile (if that) just before that. The 300 rd is the boundry between the res and state side in that area. As you get farther towards Heber the boundry seperates and you have about half a mile gap between the 300 and the res. Lots of elk in there.
Hunterjohnny Report post Posted June 14, 2012 Sounds like we have a trailer to stay in and shoot the elk as we fish!
