Treestand setups

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there were some good ideas for inexpensive treestand steps. I see some guys have just pounded stakes in the tree but I would like to be able to remove them after the season. I was wanting to have a couple different stands hung for backup elk spots and wondered if there were some good ideas on steps. Also what are you guys using for harnesses? Haven't sat in a treestand for 10 yrs.

Thanks, Andy

Sportsman's guide has the cheapest ladder sticks that I've seen. Between my friends and I we have 5 sets. 5 piece set ups, 20ft total length and the are rock solid. I combined pieces and was at 30 plus feet for my Wt hunt in Jan.

the USFS may cite you for pounding nails or screwing pegs into a tree. They are getting serious about this. We have used ladders that assemble in 4' sections, strapped to the tree with ratchet straps and one chain wrapped around the tree/ladder and pad-locked. It is harder to carry to your spot, but a little safer than pegs. I am considering the ladder stand which is all one unit....or just a pop-up ground blind.

you are brave!

when I was younger maybe.... scary stuff! lol! I guess I'm a wuss in my elder age of 40 considering I used to base jump! lol!

but 25-30 ft is where you want to be in most situations.

Just bought the sportsman guide ladder. Haven't used it yet but looks good for the money. 50 bucks after shipping. Only thing I can see wrong with it out of the box is the peices that bolt to the actuall ladder. I can't get the bolt through 2 of them. Will just have to drill it out to make the hole smooth and should be good to go.
