A Dumb Question...

Recommended Posts

This may be a dumb question. I feel dumb asking... BUT... has anyone ever tried using .30 carbine bullets in an AR-10 or bolt .308? Seems like for plinking purposes it wouldn't be a bad thing but particularly in the AR platforms, would there be cycle issues or is there a Minimum Overall Length that cartridges can be? I've read on other sites of people being successful with it and others that haven't. Just curious to what anyone has tried or just perhaps their thoughts on it. I am not so much looking for accuracy. Just something to go fire off some cheap fun... also, if the .30 carbine projectiles arent recommended does anyone know of anywhere locally that may sell surplus pulled, 30 cal projectiles for cheap??

I don't know about using them in an AR but yes they will work in a bolt action. You will go through some different powders until you find a few that work at whatever velocity it is you settle on.

A chronograph is going to be a big asset in your endeavor.

Doesnt get much cheaper than bulk winchester or Remington bullets from midway or someplace similar.
