Anaconda Report post Posted May 28, 2012 Almost every where you see articles and advice on hunting the rut. Most elk hunters take to the field in late October or November, well after the rut. (I have a late season tag this year) What your best advice and tactics for finding and killing the big ones long after the rut ?
123456 Report post Posted May 28, 2012 Invest, (if you already have not) in a very nice tripod and some great glass. The keys to these late hunts is glassing em' up and putting the stalk on them. It will also be a benefit if you are able to shoot longer distances. Lots of times, you find them on thicks hills and when you get too close, you are not able to see the animal anymore. Also I like to look for travel ways in which the elk will be migrateing. Last year we saw over 50 bulls in 6 days. We can only confirm a few that we had seen from previous days. They like to move during this time, and you just need to hope it is during daylight hours. What unit do you have?
