Seems like everything they make is heavy and bulky - or maybe some Euro-trash flying around. It sure isn't one of ours. Even our Bell Huey UH1 look like a Ferrari compared to that thing. donniedent Report post Posted May 20, 2012 CH-56E Sea/Super Stallion. Its a Marine Corps or Navy helocopter. The "E" indicates its the suped up version with 3 turbines vs. 2 and 7 blades vs. 6. When I was in the Corps there was only one squadron of the E types in Okinawa. They may have more now or it could be a navy helo or border patrol. I had the great pleasure of being a helo mechanic when I was active duty and worked on 56's among others. And how many of the "boots" were foolish enough to push the ball? Well we could only get one out of every group that came in, so not a whole lot. Just so everyone knows a "boot" is a fesh body out of boot camp. The best fun by far with boots was hammer qual (qualifying). We would get our fresh young Marines sitting in a line on the deck (floor). We would give them each a hammer of some sort and put a penny on the floor in front of them. we would let them take a few practice swings at the penny then we would blindfold them and tell them whoevers penny looked the worst when we said stop got the rest of the day off. With them blindfolded really good we would say go! After a few seconds of them swinging away we'd throw their "covers" (camo hats, part of the uniform) over the penny. They would beat the holy heck out of their own covers. these things would look like you put them in the garbage disposal. Then we'd tell them to stop and let them take their blindfolds off to see who won. Of course that was usually their only cover so they had to walk around the rest of the day looking like hobos till the got to the PX for a new one. I have so many stories of stuff we used to pull for fun, don't get me going. LOVED my time in the Corps!!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
