Forum upgrade coming soon

Recommended Posts

Hi Amanda:

Thanks for taking so much time with me.

I'm using an 8-year-old Mac laptop with a slow, dial-up modem here in Tucson, but only for today and tomorrow. Will return to the cabin for the summer on Friday, where I have a big-screen IMac and a high-speed wireless connection.

The features you described do not appear on my laptop's screen. Will see what happens when we are back on the mountain.

Thanks again.

The new forum is nice and all, but I've been seeing some strange stuff.

For one, when I start scrolling, large sections of the posts don't show up - just a big empty space with the background color. Also, when you reply to a topic, it used to take you back to that topic, at your post. Doesn't seem to do that anymore.

Finally, after replying to a topic, it seems to take a while for that topic to get "moved up" in terms of a recently updated topic. Probably just a lag to let the moderators get a chance to review, but it definately changes the feel of the forum.

I'm not trying to be overly critical, just pointing out some differences that will take some getting used to. I love this forum and spend a lot of time here so I wanted to give some constructive feedback.

There is no moderator review of posts before they get added, so that's not causing any issue you described. I have noticed when I make a reply, it doesn't show in the view I am looking at when I post, but it will show if I leave the thread and view it from another screen. I am guessing that's what you mean? You don't see your post immediately when you hit enter, but it is there and available for all to see in the regular thread view.

I don't really understand your other comments. I don't see any large blocks of empty space. Maybe you can be more specific. I don't know what you mean.

Also, you might try changing themes and see if you get the same issues with the other theme. Each theme is designed by different people and how they design can affect how things appear and it may have nothing to do with the underlying software. However, if you see the same problems, then it's likely just related to the upgraded software.

I've noticed the same thing about the posting on a thread and not seeing it. If you scroll to the top of the thread your post will be the first one underneath the original poster, then it goes back to the bottom after you get out of the thread.

yes, I have seen that. I don't know why it does that, but it doesn't really affect anything in reality because the post is there in the right place in the thread, it just seems to show differently for the user immediately after posting. I can ask tech support why that is. I imagine it's something they will fix with minor upgrades so hopefully that oddity won't be around long. But rest assured, you post is displaying normally in the thread for all to see.

BoneCollector, try it out using the other theme and see if you get that same result when posting. I will do the same. I tried it using the other theme (Xeriteq) and it doesn't have the same problem. In other words, with the other theme, the post shows up fast and in the normal position in the thread. So, I think the problem is with the skin designer in the Club design. Unfortunately, the original designer sold her skin to another person who upgraded it for the new software and I don't think he has the level of experience the old designer has.

Don't know...seems most people's avatars are showing fine.....but you can re-upload it. Click on your name in upper right corner of forum to see drop down menu. Select My Settings and when that opens up, look in General Setttings for the first option which says Photo and has a button for uploading a photo. In the new software, there is just one photo for each user rather than an avatar and a different profile photo. For the avatar try uploading a small photo, about 145x145 pixels. Anyone needing help resizing can send me a pic and I can resize for you.

Amanda, looks like it just happens with the club skin.
