biglakejake Report post Posted April 26, 2012 Met Frank shortly after he moved to the mountain and worked with him alot over the years. Memorial is the 28th in Show Low. Two American Citizens were reported missing last weekend after they went kayaking south of San Felipe, in Baja California, and never came back. Yesterday, the body of one of them, 70 year old Frank Wheeler, was found floating in the water in Bahía de San Luis Gonzaga, in the Gulf of California area (Sea of Cortez). The other American Citizen is Frank’s wife, 60 year old Bobi Wheeler. She is still missing. The couple reside in the San Felipe community of El Dorado, and they’re known to be fond of kayaking. The search for this American couple was prompted by reports of their vehicle having been abandoned since April 7th at the tourist camp of Huerfanitos, 70 miles south of San Felipe. So far no wrongdoing is suspected, since they were both seen entering the gulf waters in their kayaks right after parking their vehicle. The Mexican navy on Wednesday continued its search in an area south of Puertecitos for Bobi Wheeler. A statement by Mexico’s Naval Ministry said that personnel had been searching on land and sea since Saturday, and on Sunday an airplane was sent to join the effort. The airplane and two boats continued to search the area between Punta Bufeo and Punta Final on Wednesday. According to the statement from the Mexican Naval Ministry, some fishermen on Monday found an empty kayak drifting about three miles from an area known as Campo Douglas. Frank Wheeler’s body was found later that day, according to the statement.
