7mm STW

I have the opportunity to purchase a Ruger #1 7mm STW and was wondering if anybody has used this caliber and what you think of it? Also, anybody have the Ruger with a laminate stock that hunts coues with it. It weighs in at 9lbs, so I don't think I want to lug it around the hills, since my current rifle is only 6lbs. David

I shoot a custom built 7stw on a Rem. 700 action. It's very fast and flat shooting. It's also fairly heavy but I just put it in the back scabbard on my Eberlestock back pack. You will also want to shoot a well constructed bullet. I've been very happy with the rifle and the cal.

my cousin uses a ruger no. 1 in a 7stw, stainless laminate, he likes it other than the trigger, i guess its pretty hard to change or lighten i haven't looked into it too much though. He's never complained about the weight, caliber, or anything besides the trigger pull

You will appreciate the extra weight at the range. I would develop a flinch real quick with a 6 LB STW.

I have a remington AWR in 7stw. 24 inch light taper barrel, Mcmillan stocked, teflon-coated, and muzzle-braked. Light rifle, minimal recoil, but loud!! Right now, I'm finishing up load development for it. Strangely, the best groups I'm getting ae with 120gr Nosler Ballistic tips. (with 78grains of IMR 7828, consistantly under an inch@100) Haven't chrono'd those loads yet, but I like the accuracy. I have also worked with 139 gr Hornadies and 150 Gr. Ballistic tips. In my rifle, these shoot good, but not as well as the 120 grainers...
