olmos1010 Report post Posted April 7, 2012 I am typing this for my husband as he is at work right now. He is going shed hunting tomorrow with our twin 10 year old daughters for their first time tomorrow. They were going to head out to the Stoneman Lake area because we have heard and read good things about it. We have no idea about where to begin. He is not set on the Stoneman Lake area so if anyone wants to meet up and go shed hunting tomorrow he will be more than happy to head out to another spot. If you are not headed out but have some pointers on other good spots in pine country that would be good to check out it would be greatly appreciated. We would really like this to be a successful day for them. They are really interested into learning about hunting and have been practicing with their bow. They have been on several hunts with us and have been really excited waiting to get out there for a shed hunting day. We are just trying to keep the next generation going. Any guidance would be great. Thanks in advance.

elkhunter Report post Posted April 7, 2012 head towards the area that's more rugged than stoneman lake area, such as rocky cliff areas where quads/trucks do not travel all that well. Majority of the sheds on the flat grounds has been picked up, go to areas that has less vehicle access, best of luck to your fam

Right on!! Look at all the whites being found by horn hunters right now, which means they've been laying around for a year or more and nobody saw them. I like glassing for horns vs. walking, then I do the hikeing and find a few while going after the ones I've glassed.
