Browning A-Bolt

Recommended Posts

Just looking for some information for my brother. He is looking at buying a Browning A-bolt .300 WSM. Any opinions. We are typically a Remington and Winchester bunch, but the problem is that my brother is left-handed and this is only left handed rifle in this caliber he can find.

Thanks

Great gun just make sure he gets a 24" barrel. I had one that had the Boss system. It shortened the barrel to about 20", I could not get the velocity the book said I should. With factroy ammo that was one of the best shooting guns I have ever had.

I believe the Browning in 300WSM will have a 23" barrel. The CZ model 3 in 300WSM comes left handed. If he would consider a 300 Win Mag, there's Ruger 77 MKII., and Savage has a bunch of left handed models .

Remington Lefties; http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/left-Hand/

Sako 75 hunter has lefty models in 270 and 30-06.

Montana Rifle Company makes left handed barreled actions in 300WSM, and then put it an aftermarket stock inletted for the action.

I have an A-Bolt in 300mag and love it. It is the stainless stalker with the Boss system. I loaded up some 165 grain sierra boat tails pushing 3250fps (72g/4350) and it was very accurate. I haven't had to tune the barrel much. I mostly make a bullit to match the barrel. Put a SIMS recoil pad on it and you will be able to shoot fifty rounds at the range with no problem. Make sure you have good ear protection while shooting. It will clear most of the guys next to you at Ben Avery. :)

I have a Browning A-Bolt Medallion in the 7 Mag caliber. I love it. It's pretty heavy with a bipod though. In coues country it can get to you if you're not in shape. I don't think you can go wrong with a Browning.

Thanks for the replies. I pretty sure he is going to buy the gun. He actually had to order it. He has a Remington model 700 that is left handed, but its also 15 years old and my dad had to special order it. I knew that Browning was a respected name, but just didn't have any experience with them. Thanks again.
