Heading to new Zealand any info will help

Time is tickin and I'm leavin to new Zealand and the end of may! Red stag and Chamois are in my future. Any one that was been please let me know anything that could be helpful. I'm on a five day hunt but will be there two days early and leave two days later. So any type of travel , hotel, hunt, or general information will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I hunted both islands in the early 1990s, so any info I might have about hotels, etc., would not be relevant today. If you'll be hunting chamois, the chances are good there also will be Himalayan tahr around. They are interesting animals and you probably should think about hunting one.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. what guide service did you use and anything that you might of wished you brought after you were already there? anything special i might want to do while im there! i have a few extra days and am planning on doing some trout fishin! Im more interested on checking out the islands and bringing home some great pics!

 

Anyone else with some info i would love to hear it also! thanks

I fly-fished the streams feeding Lake Taupo near Zane Gray's old cabin at Lake Taupo on the North Island and watched people jump off the railroad bridge where bungee jumping began on the South Island. My outfitter was Paul Bamber of Wanganui Safaris. His place is on the rim of the canyon of the Whanganui River on the North Island, New Zealand's equivalent of our Grand Canyon. If you want, I can give you his website and email addresses. He has some huge red deer on his place. He arranged my tahr and chamois hunt on the South Island with another outfitter who no longer is in business. It's been close to 20 years since I hunted there.

My brother in law was born and raised on the south island, I'll gice him a buzz for you. What are your plans? What island are you going to?
