mbiewer Report post Posted March 28, 2012 Got this from game and fish last night in an email, and on their face book page they posted the same information. Time to start checking your credit cards.... good luck everybody: Elk/pronghorn draw results to be available in the next 1-2 weeks March 27, 2012 PHOENIX - It’s the time of year when many constituents ask the Arizona Game and Fish Department when the results for the pronghorn antelope and elk hunt draw will be released. The department anticipates that the 2012 results will be available sometime in the next one to two weeks, but there is no set date at this point. For those who applied using the online service, the process of charging the credit cards of successful applicants will begin tomorrow. This process will take several days to complete. Constituents are asked to please not call the department regarding draw results until the results are publicly posted. We will make an announcement of their availability on our website at www.azgfd.gov and through our e-news, Facebook and Twitter communications. To sign up for e-news, visit www.azgfd.gov/signup. lilcoues Report post Posted March 29, 2012 why can't the g&f set a date when the results will be posted. it seems that other states are able to set a specific date and stick to it. how many things would you like to see changed with the az g&f?

They DO set a date. It's in the regulations on page 12. It says: 'Hunt permit-tags and refund warrants mailed out by: April 20, 2012' In all seriousness though, for anyone who knows anything about computers (specifically as it pertains to large 'batch' processing), it is hard to determine the exact day/time that a process that is run once a year will complete. It's easy to play armchair quarter back, but there are things like server space/capacity, database size, etc. that come into play. Many people get VERY antsy this time of year, but the bottom line is that we'll all know when we know...... You have to figure that G&F isn't trying to keep us waiting on purpose. They are just trying to get it right and final with no errors. Remember the days of waiting for the white or pink slips in the mail???? Patience my friends! S. Having worked in IT for a long time as an architect and DBA for financial and government institutions it is a laughable to suggest that the draw is resource intensive application. Storage is most certainly not an issue. CPU cycles are cheap and providing indices and stored procedures are optimized, storedprocs execute in short order for each "round." It is a mystery is to the timing or delay of the draw but to suggest it is because of technology constraints is baseless in my opinion.

Is this the first time they have done a on-line app since they started the early elk draw? Iam not sure but if it is with all the cretit cards being used then maybe thats whats takin so long. Also I cant remember them ever sending e-mails saying the draw will be posted in a week or two
out4blood Report post Posted March 30, 2012 I got billed $77.50 today. Looks like I'll be chasing speed goats in 19a this August!
GTIMANiac Report post Posted March 30, 2012 Credit auth and settlement is trivial, from a logistics view CC is considerably easier than checks. I am honestly glad they reinstated online, one year I had written the check for 112.50 instead of 121.50, they would not count it towards a bonus point and still kept 7.50 application fee! Chris Report post Posted March 30, 2012 I agree, g&f is not up with technology. They never have been. They could have been done weeks ago.
JLW Report post Posted March 30, 2012 at least you don't have to wait like you did before they moved the draw up! Maybe if the state wouldn't take the G&F $ when they are in the red and G&F was in the black they could be a little farther with technology. At least they are trying to make it better. They set a date for tags and refunds maybe they should use that date for posting and everyone would know when the results are going to be out! The early elk hunters will still have 5 months for scouting. It could be worse... you could be in Pakistan sewing soccer balls! Lol! James
