crazyaboutcoues Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Unit 24...Yes there is some giants there because the locals feed them. No chance in being able to hunt them legally, all private land. Every year there are a few yahoos that poach the "tame" deer. Just take pictures
jamaro Report post Posted May 11, 2006 It was really neat to see them running around.. For some reason I did not think that mulies would put up with all the traffic... I know every year they have a look-out campaign- looking for poachers... I think I am going to try to help with that this year. Last year I think there were two deer shot with arrows... It was not good becasue people often associate hunters with poachers.. IMO not quite the same... J- Are there any coues up Little Walnut?
crazyaboutcoues Report post Posted May 11, 2006 "You better Billy" There's Coues deer up Little Walnut, Around Gomez Peak and remember your not that far from Bear Mountian . Yeah we had a dumb butt try to take credit for shooting a very large mule deer in Little Walnut. You know the guy that thinks he's the best hunter and knows everything about hunting. Been there done that type of guy. Well he brought the rack to work bragging about how he stalked it and made a 90 yard shot thru the heart. Come to find out he was busted for poaching that Buck in Little walnut. The buck was drinking water in a guys front yard, he drove by, saw it got out like most people do to take pictures, except this guy arrows it in the butt at 25 yards. The buck runs though everone back yard with an arrow stuck to his butt bleeding all over the place. This guy was seen launching scud missles at the buck trying to finish it off. He finally did kill the buck but by then the whole neighborhood had already called the fish cops. The guy got away for a few days until he was nabbed with the rack in his shed. What an idiot, the worst part about it he got away with just trespassing.
muley Report post Posted May 11, 2006 It must have been the archery hunt. That sucks for you guys, just because there is no law stating that you can not shoot a bow in city limits. But trespassing is a different story.
jamaro Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Muley I think they passed a law like that a few years ago.. I guess some guy killed a nice buck from the second floor of the local Motel 6. Seriously..... Jason
fatfootdoc Report post Posted May 12, 2006 Jason, Contrary to what you have been hearing, you can take deer from little walnut, just haul butt down that road in your car and , well just like hunting, its 90% luck and 10% skill, so you figure that within 5-6 tries you should be able to bag one with a 4000 gr bumper pushed by 3500 lbs of american steel at a velocity of 55 mph. Just remember, AIM FOR THE HEART!! AG

Andy Report post Posted May 12, 2006 Do any of you all that live in Silver City know a guy named Zeb Kern. I went to school at Western for a semester and met some good guys up there. One was Zeb, and he took me out on my muzzleloader elk hunt during finals week, but I haven't been in contact with him in a few years.
huntswnm Report post Posted May 16, 2006 Andy, I do not know Zeb personally, although I do know his brother Eric. I believe that Zeb is working for the Phoenix Fire Department in Arizona. Eric is here and works out of the local Forest Servie office as a biologist. Jeff
