Predator Control funded in Utah

Recommended Posts

I was not accusing you. I'm just stating that predator control is the main way SFW draws the unsuspecting into their fold. They wail and moan about wolves, then oppose legislation that would delist them. They are like cancer researchers that scam money off of well meaning people, all the while hoping like **** that there is never a cure for cancer.

We know you are not one of "them". :D

My sentiments exactly. I just wanted to affirm the fact that some of these things can be twisted by the group that thinks the North american model of wildlife management is socialism. We are all friends here :).

Speak of the devil.....I just got another email from SFW telling me how they need more money or hunting will disappear.

Please SFW, rescue us from ourselves. Just like our Fed gov't, you think we need to be a nanny state, where all our needs are provided by the rich and the elitist. How would we ever survive without your superior judgment?

the specific allocation of money towards predator control will definitely help deer/antelope/elk. it sure won't hurt. fawn survival is a key component that drives our herd populations. I am totally for setting monies aside for lion/coyote bounty.....allen....

you are falling into their trap.

We need to sell tags to millionairs or the coyotes and lions will eat all the deer and then they will eat your children.

That will be their counter to your statement, in my opinion.

So if the critter groups all pooled money lets say a third of what is paid to gilstrap at twenty bucks a head on coyotes that's like 5500 dead coyotes across the state.

Then the other two thirds could actually go to building catchments and improvements. Funny when I typed gilstraps name in my I phone it autocorrected to goldstrap.

Gateway Outdoors is organizing a 2 or 3 day class on killing coyotes. I think it's is going to be in April. PM Muskrat for details.

Here's my wild idea on how to reform our laws to better control coyotes.

If you talk to the goverment trappers, one of the more effective ways they control the coyote population is from the air. Numbers that I have heard is upwards of 200 coyotes in a day.

The regs currently don't allow wildlife to be taken from a vehicle so you or I could not legally go out and do this. What if a bill was passed through that would allow individuals do become specially licensed or guides to become specially licensed to take hunters on aerial coyote hunts. Doesn't that sound like a lot of fun?

I'm sure there are tons of reasons why this wouldn't work that I can't think of, what do y'all think?

Sounds like a blast!!! I don't think it would fly though. No pun intended. I think is a lot more our orgs can do to promote more predator hunting. Our dept sees there is a problem, otherwise they wouldn't have opened up night shooting and special management ares for lions. I was at a meeting where Brian Wakeling spoke about coyote predation on mule deer and there haven't been substantial studies on the effects coyotes have on deer populations. 3bar showed that if you remove all predators, deer herds grow but... That will never happen. The dept is not yet sold on the idea that coyotes have that big of an effect on deer. And you will notice in that article, there was a former biologist that stated he was against it because it was misguided. I know what I see when I'm in the field and the more coyotes I see, the more the survey numbers drop. We need to take full advantage of what the dept is offering us. We need to get our butts out there and kill all the predators we can and do it at the right times. Snapshot made that point earlier. Nobody wants to be out in the sticks in the heat of the summer but that's when the deer need it. I'm working on some fresh ideas with SWSA and some possible incentives for hunters to bring in an ear or two, I will keep you guys updated on what we can do.

Utah is proposing the loss of 1800 rifle and ML'er deer tags, to be replaced with 1300 archery tags. Sounds like SFW is doing great things in Utah......NOT. Can't wait for them to fix our herds.
